Can we get an Obituaries sub-forum? It's getting kind of rediculous in "Everything Else"...

I don't see what's ridiculous about it. There's only a handful and it IS the "EVERYTHING ELSE" forum.

Personally I think it is interesting news to hear that someone has passed that had an impact on our lives. Considering nostalgia is what our hobby centres around, people, events and technology shape our world.
I'll add a RIP if I think the person merits the inclusion at BYOAC. I won't add people who did not impact our generation (those of us who are in the early 40's or late 30's. Besides, it brings those, who have never experienced the person (who has passed) into a new discovery.
It is a fact of life that we all die, and it is fitting that we acknowledge their deaths, as much as we enjoyed their life.
Personally if you have an Everything Else sub forum, I cannot understand what the problem is. That said, I manage several forums, and I respect everyone's views regardless if they are misguided or not.

Didn't realize I didn't meet the age requirement for BYOAC...

Are you not glad I didn't add your demographic into my conclusion?
What is a 'rediculous' ? Is this some new youngish slang, or a poor attempt at spelling?
Here endeth the lesson. :bat

We all have our moments. Kind of like...
It is a fact of life that we all die...
In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.
Oh, the irony... Must be the sometimers kicking in.

This is very apt and clarifies my argument perfectly.
I am speaking about the individual when I say we all die.
My signature advises that every thing in life goes on. Thoughts, dreams and knowledge, experience.
The people I have posted about in EE have passed, yet their thoughts and dreams (that is documented), with their knowledge is passed to future generations.
One of the many reasons why I have so much trouble communicating with the younger generation, is due to the younger generation not clearly understanding about what was presented to them before they respond.
I have done this same error time and time again, yet I have overcome this obstacle with the knowledge and teachings of the late Stephen Covey.
Hopefully, posting of his passing on this forum, might bring interest from other readers who can benefit from his knowledge, as so many million other people have. ;)

Apologies to Smokes for my bad grammar.

If we could get a feature where topics started from ignored users don't show up that would solve the problem for me.

:stupid
That's why there's that column just to the right of Subject labeled Started By. You can pick and choose ya know. Next you'll want a FB friends style layout where you can unsubscribe from posts by a specific user.

We are about to upgrade to the 2.x branch of SMF. I'll look into what user ignore and other mods are available when we do.
-
The ignore feature needs to be improved upon, definitely.
While you are at it Saint, how about sorting out your back end.
It takes forever to update.

Whenever one of our SMF forums gets as laggy as this one, we just submit a ticket to our provider and they check over the installation and perform a complete database maintenance check.
I also ask for a backup. We supposed to get three a year, but we are up to 5 so far. ;D
Personally I think it is the service provider, but we get a clean bill of health from them anyways.
-
Ah. We're moving to an entirely new server, double the RAM, faster proc, new version of SMF, etc.

Meh, you've got a few odd ducks around here that I've had on ignore for years. You'd think they'd realize they haven't gotten a response from me in quite awhile, but they're on threads, without fail, responding to my posts. Easy enough to ignore until I click on the Reply button (which reveals every post) or someone else quotes them. Then you've got to address it because your thread just got ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- all over.
"Exert some self-control!" yeah, yeah, I'm a big proponent of that myself. When you've got these guys dominating Everything Else and Politics, what are you supposed to do? Not participate at all in this forum? Others seems perfectly content to contribute to their navel gazing ME ME ME posts.
Oh well, nothing's perfect.
Some of the personality conflicts get old and some people are entirely too sensitive but on the whole I like reading the dissension. It adds just enough conflict to keep me interested but not so much that I feel like I'm participating in some kind of SMF soap opera. If Saint devised a block user from view system I likely would not make use of it but I would love a public scoreboard where a user can see how many users he has blocking him and how many other users have. Not by name of course, but it would be a rather fun metric to have public.
Kudos for good use of navel gazing btw.

Awesome! It would be great if this fixes Tap-a-Talk.

One of the things on my list to get working right on the new server/software.

It was visible before. Not sure if it still is since I don't use that theme. I doubt it because we used to be able to see what users were doing online but now we get the generic "Nothing or nothing you can see" type of answer.
But IT was available for a while.

I still want a Post Hell post count... ;D
