Title: Help Setting Up a Run and Gun 2 Jamma board
Post by: jmike on July 15, 2012, 10:30:42 pm
Hoping someone here can help me out. I purchased a run and Gun 2 Arcade board a while back from a fellow member and finally decided to try and use it. (As far as I know the motherboard was working)

I'm using a video converter from paradise arcade shop. (Gonbes cga to vga). Well nothing seems to be coming up. Here's a couple of pics I took. Tested the jamma harness and there's definitely power going to the Jamma board. Just not getting any video. The gonbes also powers up, I even went through its menu. I've never worked with an arcade motherboard, so I'm hoping someone can shed a little light. I also purchased the run and gun 2 manual on Ebay but have no idea, what to look for or what I'm looking at.  ??? ???
Any help would be appreciated.

Also did a visual inspection on the board and nothing seemed burned out or disconnected.

check the dips so its for 1 monitor out? I got Run and Gun 1 from the same guy (Nephasth) and had no issues. If you get stuck and its a no go, I wouldn't be opposed to sending you run and gun 1 for the cost of shipping, Ive ran through the game a ton of times :) Offer only applies to you, and you got plenty of time to figure it out.

Do you have any other jamma boards to test?

It's an awesome deal!  :notworthy:

Malenko, are you running your board through a video converter as well or using it with a regular arcade monitor? I checked the dip switches, using the manual but still get no video.  :banghead:  Unfortunately I don't have another jamma board to test. Can you send me a pic of how your set up looks? (especially the dip switches). I'll be glad to take the board off your hands but I want to make sure it's not me connecting things wrong, no sense having 2 run and gun boards not working
One thing I did notice, thanks to Nephasth pics (which I found again) the jamma connector that was used with the board actually has the video cables in a different location than the jamma wiring harness I got from Paradise Arcade (meaning the white, blue, green, red cables). They're actually almost in the middle of the harness. Not sure if this is the cause of the "no video issue".

Thanks again for your help. (will post pics tonight)

I have a jamma cabinet:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=120488.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=120488.0)

JAMMA is a standard for the wiring, and if memory serves me its pins 12 and 13 on the jamma harness for video. Yup, just googled it:

on the parts side, pin 12 (N)  is green,  and 13 (P) is video sync
on the solder side, pin 12 is Red, and pin 13 is Blue

so yeah that's probably why you dont have any video.

Any suggestions? See attached jpeg.
Not sure if this will work but figure sending the video feed directly to the video converter might work   :dizzy:

My suggestion would be to try using the harness I sent you. I know for a fact that board worked with that harness.

I don't have an arcade monitor so hooking that up and having a video converter will be hard to try and match the wires. I'll google tonight or maybe send Paradise Arcade an email.

Here's a closer looks at the new harness and the original one. After closer examining them side by side it turns out that they both have the video cables in the same location. Will have to look at the dip switches again. Also I did connect two monitors just in case and both still had no signal.

if you want I can lend you my Tekken II verB PCB, its the smallest jamma board I own, you'd just have to ship it back when youre done (I can cover shipping to you, it should fit in a  small flat rate box. That would help you figure out if its the board or the converter

Malenko,    ( :notworthy:)
Thanks for the super generous offer, really appreciate it. Since I really don't  know what the heck I'm doing  :banghead:, I'd hate to be responsible for frying your board. I have my friend stopping by this weekend to check things out for me. Any chance you can send me a pic of the dip switches on your Run And Gun board? I think if I can't get this to work I'll purchase one of those 60-1 boards this weekend. Paradise arcade shop has a video converter install video which features that very same board so I'll just follow it step by step.

Really appreciate the offer again,

Hey if I manage to get this to work, I'll buy that run and gun board off you.

At this rate it might be easier just sending you my board to test along with the video converter.

(Let me know if you're interested, I'd be willing to make a small contribution to ShoRyuKade project  ;D

I'll take a picture of the dips when I get home and post it. I'll be sending out the Tekken II PCB monday, I doubt you'll fry it and if you do , its just a tekken 2 :)

Thanks again Malenko. I'll let you know when it comes in. Here's a pic of the switches on my board. Seems I have twice as many, which only adds to the confusion.

Hey Malenko board arrived today. (that was fast)
Well got a chance to do a quick connect and your motherboard worked just fine on the first try. It had a bit of a tracking issue but from what I read about the video converter that can be easily adjusted. Here's a quick pic.

Well, that just means one of two things, the settings on my run and gun 2 board (dip switches) are set wrong, or I might have messed up the board

Open to suggestions from anyone.

Maybe try switching the dip switches one at a time and back. I can't seem to find the dip switch settings anywhere online...

Thanks Nephasth,
will do. I'm pretty sure the board is working. I didn't do anything to damage it and it was well stored. At least I know the video converter is working now so that eliminates that as the problem. I have the manual for the board. I thought I set the switches correctly but I'll look again this weekend.

theres tons of ways to go from here, do you want to send me the RnG 2 and see if it works in one of my jamma cabs? Wanna get this RnG1 and try to kill it? Wanna buy a track ball and play that horseshoes game?

I'd check the voltages on the power supply , that horseshoes game ran on a wider range, Run N Gun only ran when the +5 was between 4.9 and 5.1

I can send you the Run and gun 2 board to see if it works on your cab.
Yeah, I'd like buy your run and gun 1 board off you.
I don't know about buying a trackball,  for the horse shoe game (it looks hard)  ;)

PM coming up.

got your boards, they play just fine in my KI and MKII cabs. I think its the voltages from your power supply. Just for the record,I like Run and Gun 1 much better even though 2 looks better.

Dip settings, this is how you want them, except dip 4, that's for 2 monitors, you want that one off.

switch bank 2 (aka switches 5 through 8) don't do anything.
Switch 1 mono/stereo sound
Switch 2 normal/flip monitor 1
Switch 3 normal/flip monitor 2
switch 4 1 monitor/ 2 monitors

title screen 2:

so, what do you want to do? Send me your set up and see if I can make it work, or me just send you both RnG boards back?

Thank goodness it works.    :applaud:  :applaud:

Thanks Malenko.
Let me send you my setup. Maybe it's the video converter settings that's causing the problem then   :dizzy:

(Will send you the touchscreen along with the setup).

Hey Malenko,
Will ship out the setup and touchscreen later today.
I think I'll wait and see if everything works properly before I continue to work on the bartop base for this game.
