Title: Anyone played these titles extensively?
Post by: paigeoliver on July 13, 2012, 11:47:16 pm
I picked up a box of PCBs today, mostly consisting of sports titles that I haven't really played more than once or twice. I have some empty cabinets that don't have games in them (ex trivia cabinets), and I am wondering if any of these titles are worth installing in an empty cabinet, or if I should just sell them off. I haven't played any of these enough to figure out if they really have replay value or not.

World Class Bowling (have version 1.61 and 2 copies of version 2.0) Is this better than Capcom Bowling?
Hot Shots Tennis
Double Dribble
WWF Wrestlefest
Surf Planet (with the special joystick)

For that matter what is the difference between 1.61 and 2.0 bowling? I know that normally the later revision is preferred, but that sometimes the earlier revision is better. Those 3 boards are just irking me in general, since I am about 85 percent done with a Capcom Bowling fixup/restoration.

The second cab I ever bought was a Surf Planet -- I bought it because it came in a nice Capcom Big Blue with a beautiful monitor that I thought would be perfect for a 2-player MAME.

I had planned on selling the Surf Planet bits, but once the kids played it and we got in a competitive groove, there was no way they were going to let me sell it.

So, my Big Blue MultiJAMMA cab was born -- I moved the analog stick to the upper right and dropped in a standard SF-6/trackball layout, threw in a GT2K board and whatever other JAMMA board I wanted for the 8-ways and buttons.

It is far from awesome sauce as a game, but it's easy to play (only the side-to-side analog stick) and tough to master (shaving fractions of a second off of a run to get back on the high score board can take hours).

YMMV

There is a difference between the two bowling games.  I can't remember at the moment but the version 2.0 is the better version. I can't look at the moment because my control panel and PC are in pieces but you want to go with 2.0.

Out of all of the games on my cabinet, world class bowling (2.0) gets played the most BY FAR.  This is a great game to play with friends while drinking (or not).  There isn't really a dominant player when we play.  Everyone wins and loses. It's not like street fighter where one person will kick everyone's ass to the point that it's boring. It's fast paced but can be slow played if there is more socializing and drinking going on.  Its also fun by yourself for a little while.

I highly recommend world class bowling 2.0.

Edit: 2.0 has the option of the "flash" game mode. It adds points to your score and can make the game more competitive.
