So, found a Capcom Impress on Craigslist this morning, it had posted yesterday.
They gave an address & phone number, googled the address, found it was a pawn shop. Like 8 minutes from where I work.
Pawn shop opened up at 9, my brother and I were there about 9:05... Price on the Impress was $300. Decided to take a page from the PBJ playbook and offer $200, cash in hand. Guy goes in the back to consult the owner... come out, and sold! @ $200.

Oh, and monitor / sound / game work perfectly. It's got Soul Caliber in it.

I hate you.
(never seen a candy cab for under $1200 around here)

Would you hate me even more if I told you this is now my 2nd Impress and I got the first one for $275?

Hoarder! ;D

As I was checking out (and this has a 5 day warranty, lol) the phone rings... I overhear "Oh, the arcade game? That just sold..."

+10 RESPEK for haggling at a pawn shop.
I figured what's the worst that's gonna happen, they say "no"?

Good ol' "cash-in-hand" line...gotta love the allure of cold hard green-backs.
Also. I hate you.

Here that clerk would respond "26 people have called about that today. The price is now $750."
-
i used to work at future shop (best buy) and a ton of people would try and haggle the price with "cash in hand" as their argument, as if the cash was just going directly into my pockets instead of to the store. Needless to say cash offers don't work in big box stores ;D
Ps awesome score I'm looking for a nice candy cab but like most places people are just asking way to much when they do come up around here.

Any clerk at any pawn shop (around here) will whip out a calculator and give you exactly 8-10% off the top upon request. the owner/mgr will do more. I don't do pawnshops much anymore but when in HS/College I did a lot with guitars and amps. On the stuff I know the values of - games, stereo, guitar/amp, tools - pawnshop tag prices around here are way high across the board. i.e. a new circular saw costs 150, their price for the same well used tool is $115. They are expecting to give some ground.
**pawnbroker laws and styles do differ from region to region.
$200 at 33% off tag price, for that sit-down cab, working, is obviously a smokin' deal, esp. with game board. I don't follow candy cabs (basically non-existent on the East coast) but I know enough to know that equation works.

I'm wondering what they bought it for, considering they would go as low as they did. :dunno
I'll probably sell off (or trade) the Soul Calibur board. Not a huge fan of the game, it is fun for a little while, though.

It had to of been a pawn that went over due... or a junkie. Junkie's will sell anything they can physically move for $100

Anyone catch that Pawn Star episode where they were going on about that EM pin and how it would be worth $5K restored? (or something like that, it's been a while, I just remember how ridiculous it was)

Nice find. ;D
-
pawn shop haggling usually works. they dont exactly know wtf they are selling or the value. it comes down what they actually spent on the item. whoever pwned it must have been desperate and never came back for it.
excellent find.
reminds me of the time I bought a cvs2 cabinet for $300. sold the guts on ebay for over 300 and kept the monitor+cabinet. and that was one of those ghetto american style cabinets(I love those)
-
You know, I thought for sure they were going to come back with a counter offer. I would have been happy with $250.
-
what a great find! so jealous! Congrats!

:hissy: Why do I never find stuff like that.

^ lol...
I probably wouldn't have even thought to do it if it hadn't been for all the cash-in-hand stories here lately.
As a nice bonus, I dug out about $10 in quarters from the coin chute last night.
