I know many sites specialize in this sorta stuff, but I've always got some great info/answers from fellow BYOAC users so I thought I'd ask.
I have a Samsung LED TV, the component video connection has an option where the green wire would be equal to yellow if you were to use it with another source that only required the one wire for video.
I used Y adapters so I could hook up my Wii via the component connection, then using the Y adapter from the green Wii wire hooked up a yellow video wire for Dreamcast. I had never tested this to make sure it worked.
So now tonight I wanna set up my Rogers box (non HD) so I can watch PPV Saturday. I hook up the yellow video wire to the spliced connection and it displays black and white.
Here is my question if anyone has any info :
The wire is using is supposted to be for component video sources, I however used the BLUE, RED, GREEN as AUDIO and VIDEO. Would this wire (could this wire) possibly have some sort of filter to filter out colors ? IE - the reason the picture is displaying in black and white
OR
Because the TV detects that all 5 connections are filled (3 video/2 audio) for component it just looks to process that one color ? Again resulting in a black and white image.
I'm lost.
It did cross my mind that perhaps I did not plug the wire into what should be the video connection, but I'm almost certain I did so correctly. The wall bracket has no swivel and is "low profile" so I cant look behind and see my handy work.
Anyway, any info or thoughts would be appreciated.

the connection will be one or the other. not both.
the TV is likely detecting the fact the other 2 video plugs are plugged in and is trying to pick up the signals. because the green connection also carries sync information (red and blue only video color info) AND the yellow composite connection has the video signal and sync information, it's expecting signals from red and blue as well. because it's missing it's just displaying "black and white" even though the composite signal going into the green connection has all the color info.
i don't know that using a switcher will help either.... it depends how the TV is detecting the connection.
try pulling the cable connector from the back of the wii and see if the dreamcast pops to color. if it starts to work it's detecting some kind of signal sap being shunted through the wii or the TV is detecting some kind of connection from the wii. if it doesn't change remove the plugs from the rca sockets. this will tell you if the sockets themselves have some kind of switch built in to detect if there was just 1 or 3 plugs inserted.
if by pulling the wii connector the colors display normally

At least some Samsung TVs have a menu option to force component or composite mode on those inputs. You may find that useful, here.

As mentioned about quite possibly the TV is looking for the rest of the signal, and that is what I suspected.
Sadly with my set up I can't get to the back of the TV to make modifications or do testing.
I thought perhaps (all be it I doubted it) that the wire would have a filter, but honestly had not heard of that.
I will look for a menu option to perhaps force a signal.
That would be an awesome tool if present.
