Title: MAMEUI working where MAME command line wont? MALA Jacked too!
Post by: TheShaner on July 02, 2012, 10:18:37 pm
So I really have 2 issues.

1. I cannot launch certain games from the command line version of MAME.  I have looked into it and am coming up without any real answers.  When I launch Galaga from the command line I get an error message that says 51xx.bin not found and 54xx.bin not found.  The UI version plays the game just fine.  I cannot find any real reason why 146 (I tried 144 145 and I386) doesnt work and the GUI does.

2.  My MALA is even worse off.  I have the correct paths in the interface, but the roms are totally not launching.  The dos window is brief, but it looks like it isnt finding anything because of the number of files it looks like it is missing.  Is there a way to keep that DOS window open so I can actually see the errors and troubleshoot?

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like MAME is looking in the wrong place.
The only thing Mala does with that path is see what roms you have.
It doesn't tell MAME where to find them.

Do you have something odd in your setup, like the roms aren't in a folder named "roms" located in the same folder as mame.exe?

Compare the rom path in mame.ini with the one in mameui.ini

In my setup anyway, mame.ini is located in the same folder as mame.exe while mameui.ini is in a subfolder named "ini".

It turned out to be a permissions issue.  When I transfered from one drive to the next it made the directories read only.  So my path changes and what not were not sticking.  All fixed.

Thanks!

Uh-huh, I had this immediate niggling feeling Mala wasn't remotely the culprit.
