Title: Blue Storm
Post by: ccmathome on July 01, 2012, 09:10:58 pm
So this is a build that started out about a year ago that never got done and at the time I was going for SNAAKE's american vewlix look
(http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa427/zatoichi_ccm/USAVEWLIXeditcolor.png)

so I got my wood cut out
(http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa427/zatoichi_ccm/4c04cd78-3c1f-61da.jpg)

and started to assemble the parts
(http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa427/zatoichi_ccm/4c04cd78-2937-0f78.jpg)

and that's as far as I got befor it got cold out and lost interest in it untill last night when I decided to do a redesign on the cab to look like the Red Storm cab
(http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa427/zatoichi_ccm/4c009304-cf92-78e3.jpg)

so now this is where I'm going with this cab
(http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa427/zatoichi_ccm/bluestorm.png)

using what I already had from the "american vewlix" I started to cut it up to the above
(http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa427/zatoichi_ccm/4c009304-d03c-5ad5.jpg)

so this is where I'm at right now and hope to get some more work done in the next few days

Got the bottom box all clamped up ready to  assemble
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c009304-0e01-f6dd.jpg)

And  promptly got it screwed together
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c009304-0e4d-a4f5.jpg)

Its not perfect but will do the job, now all that's left for the bottom half is fill and sand the screw holes and  attach the sides

Got the sides attached today but this is about all I can do until I get more wood
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c00941a-4113-eba7.jpg)
May go to Lowes over the weekend to pick up some more wood, but in the meantime I should have enough scrap wood to make my jukebox.

Looking good so far. Is the screen going to 'tate for shmups? It would be truly awsome if it did.

Yes the plan is to be able to rotate the screen not sure how I want to go about that yet but I'll prob just keep it real simple.

Right now I'm working on the cp overlay
Close up shot of what I got so far  really don't like working with such a big image  its 6 3/4 x 30"

Sorry I haven't been able to take more pics of my panel, but it looks like you nailed the pattern and layout already.  Do you need any other measurements on my cab?

Quick question how much space is there on vewlix cabinets from the bottom of the cp to the floor?

On the Red Storm, its 22+1/2" from the red foot to the bottom of the control panel, but there are leg levelers that can adjust +/- 4".  So with the leveler, its currently sitting 24" from floor to bottom of panel.

Not sure of vewlix, but I'd expect similar ~24".  To compare, a standard Sega Astro is a lot lower at 22" to bottom of panel.

Today I got the cp routed
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c00941a-2078-034f.jpg)
I only meant to rout the top and bottom on the front side but had a router mishap and had to bevel all around.

Decided to dry fit the parts together and so far its going as planned

Going back to your jukebox build, what did you use for the sound?  What speakers are those and what did you power them with?  Was considering a similar style wall box but I wasn't sure what I wanted for sound.

The speakers are nothing special came from a $30 speaker box at walmart think they are Scosche HD brand. powered from hacked up pc speakers. I plan to redo this jukebox and use a proper speaker setup sometime soon.

Thanks emphatic

Today I got some grayscale  test prints made to see how the cp and bezel looked
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c00941a-0b1e-95ee.jpg)
But the hexagons were too small
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c00941a-0b3f-2fab.jpg)
Then remade  the hexagon pattern double the original size and happy with it
(http://img.tapatalk.com/4c00941a-0b9a-7abd.jpg)

Now I just need to figure out how to put the oval bit around the player 1&2 start and the art will be ready to print.

Since your screen rotation is manual, you might want to swap that hex nut out for a wing nut.

Since your screen rotation is manual, you might want to swap that hex nut out for a wing nut.

My local Lowes didn't have any wing nuts that fit ill probably check ace whenever I get around to it though I don't keep the nut tight just enough to keep the screen from moving forward
