Title: IPaq2 Question
Post by: GodSin on October 05, 2003, 07:54:25 am
Recently I ordered the I-Paq2 (USB Version) from ultimarc.com. I got it working using the Mame jumper but for some reason when I put it to Alt and try using the software on the ultimarc.com site it says it cant find it...

I got 2 Controllers each with 6 buttons, player 1 &2 buttons hooked up and they all work under mame32, but it would be really nice to configure the other buttons on the IPaq (player 1&2 buttons 7-8) to do other things like ESC and pause for the ever so important bathroom / smoke / beer breaks  ;D

I would use the shift function but I cant figure it out. any help would be very greatfull and thanks in advance for all the help as I am sure htis question has been asked a few times.

Don't  know about using USB mode. Never saw the need for it myself  ;)

As far as re-mapping goes - just re-map what you want to change in MAME (i.e. press TAB and re-map from there). I'd only muck about with re-programming the IPAC if the default setting REALLY isn't working for you.

The shift function of the IPAC is pretty straightforward. With the jumper set to MAME, 1p start is the "shift" key. Just hold it down and press the second button (listed in the IPAC docs) for the required combo. For example, by default, [1p start] + [1p left] = [ENTER].

You'll figure it out

Ditto, USB mode didn't work to well for me but as soon as I switched to PS2 everything worked just fine.

USB mode is very sensitive to the transmission speed -- adjust the "Download Speed" and "Download Timeout" speeds in the software's "Options" dialog box to improve USB communication.

Another option is to hook it up via PS2 to program it, then switch back to USB after you've gotten things the way you want.

I wrote up a section on using Ultimarc's software to program the IPAC in the SlikStik Users' manual - it might help clarify how to use the Shift key and how to program your IPAC:

Hope this helps!
