Title: Feedback on my artwork.
Post by: PacManFan on October 04, 2003, 03:47:03 pm
I need some help designing  background art for my control panel. The panel is pretty much built, but I can't install any buttons or joysticks until I get an underlay designed and printed. Here is a picture of my control panel. The dimensions are 30" x 18" , I designed this layout in Visio, so if you need the original file, let me know.

I had seen a cool CP background image that looked like a blue grid overlayed on a black background. The grid looked like it was tapering off towards the top.

In the center of my CP, I have a 4" translucent orange trackball flush mounted. I would like a cool sunburst / starburst pattern coming from it.

I'd like a few labels on the buttons, I've noted which one's do what on the image.

I'm definately NOT an artist, could someone help me out with a cool Control Panel? (Hint Hint Frosticullas)

I'd owe someone a big favor if they can help me out!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, the peanuts were extra good today. I had my mouth full!

I actually like it. Geez, that's a first. I love classic art, the Galaga stuff is a nice touch. Since the graphic is so large it's a littel hard to get a sense of scale. I might be able to comment a little better if I can see it all on one screen

Ok, took a second look. Those look like seriously angled buttons, be sure you're comfortable with that. Second comment. Symetrical controls panels look great, be sure that player 2 can actually USE the controls as well as Player 1. Personally I'd go for function over form here.

The symetrical control panel is actually planned. My wife is left handed, and I'm right handed, so we're good to go. Yeah, Galaga is one of my favorite games.

I second that...
I've got a screen res of 1600 X 1200 & your graphis just barely fits on my screen...
Think about removing that one & replacing it with one at least scaled down 50%...

That way people can actually see what they admiring/hating.

Looks good to me though...

Although I do have a hard time seeing the functional use of the 5th & 6th buttons...
Your first 4 are in the typical diamond pattern, but that layout wouldn't do much good
for the street fighter type games (unless it's only used for a good ol' button mashing contest...)

Eh... Just my take on it...

Looks nice!

P.S.
You could warp that left red ball (under the spinner) (and maybe the right one too [with the oposite direction]) with a little spiral effect for some added coolness.
