Title: Major Havoc & MAME: spinner vs. trackball?
Post by: Fred Smythe on June 22, 2012, 02:49:19 pm
I really hope I have this in the right place...had a hard time figuring out if this belonged here or in Software.

I have a panel that I built several years ago that has an Oscar Controls Vortex spinner (the replica Tempest one) in it along with the standard Happ trackball.

As expected, Tempest plays just about right in MAME with the spinner with little to no tweaking of the sensitivity, since it's darn near the exact same hardware.

The thing I'm finding really weird is that Major Havoc (Rev. 3) doesn't. Really doesn't. You can spin the hell out of it, same settings, and it barely moves. But the trackball? Plays just fine with the trackball.

Now, this doesn't bother me in the slightest since the trackball simulates the dedicated roller better than the spinner does. But I'm trying to figure out why the spinner isn't working...most Major Havocs I have played in the wild were converted Tempests and kept the spinner, so you would *think* it's the same hardware that Tempest had.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or configured Major Havoc in MAME for use with a Vortex, and what settings are you using if you did?

Thanks!

Many apologies, folks...in going over and updating my profile I discovered that apparently I asked this very same question eight years ago (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=24923.0) when I built the panel in the first place. :)

So, still weird, eight years, several different MAMEs and versions of Windows later. Ah well. :)
