Title: Highspeed Internet for Ken Layton - Part Three
Post by: FrizzleFried on June 20, 2012, 12:59:58 am
Hey everyone.  It's time again for the HIGHSPEED INTERNET FOR KEN LAYTON DRIVE!  If you've ever been given a helping hand by brother Ken Layton,  you know what kind of a gem this guy is to this community.   The bottom line is that the guy lives on a fixed income and prior to 2008 was stuck on a dialup service that he also had donated to him.  Being that much of the help Ken provides requires larger photos and/or videos,  obviously dial-up... well... sucks... so in May 2008 I came up with the idea to get Ken some high speed for the benefit of ALL of us.  The first Highspeed for Ken drive did well ... we had enough to get Ken high speed DSL for about a year and a half.  You can read about Part 1 here:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=54194&highlight=internet+ken (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=54194&highlight=internet+ken)

The second Highspeed for Ken Layton drive was even MORE successful!  The drive was kicked off November 13th 2009 and when all was said and done there was enough dough to pay for high speed for Ken for... well... since Decemeber 2009 to now... June 2012.  There is about $20 left in the account as well...

You can read about the 2nd drive here:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=110957&highlight=internet+ken (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=110957&highlight=internet+ken)

Bottom line guys... Ken is an institution.  If you have a few bucks you're willing to donate... please do.  EVERY LAST CENT that is donated goes to Kens account.  Every last dollar... and then some as I usually kick in a $20 or so myself in the end.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me...

You can papal (gift or not) to: papafrizarcade@gmail.com

Please indicate that the donation is for "INTERNET FOR KEN"...

Thank you!

I will keep a running total of donations here...

(note - there are also posts here re: both past drives... I just am using the same post to announce at multiple locations.  Feel free to do a search for "HIGHSPEED INTENET FOR KEN" and you should find plenty to read here.)

Moderators:  if you could sticky this if at all possible I would appreciate it.

Where is that fee coming from and how are some avoiding it?

It's probably only patently obvious to someone who isn't suffering at 2:30 am. :(

I look forward to many more years of Ken's insight and assistance on the boards.

Thanks Frizz for coordinating this again!

Since it's a non commercial gift/donation paypal will allow you to check the "gift" box if you make the payment through their site, and they don't take a cut.

Let me officially endorse this for whatever that's worth. Ken's a great guy and resource to the community, and Frizz is a stand-up guy (maybe not with your daughters  >:D) for doing this again. Donation from me incoming!

I ---smurfing--- hate Paypal.  I meant to go in for $10, it timed out my first attempt but sent it anyway yet didn't log it immediately, then I sent again because it appeared the first never happened.

So, I'm in for $20, and that's okay.

Fee's are generated when money is sent NON-GIFT.  A fee will also be charged if you are sending gift,  but don't have enough money in paypal to cover it OR if you have your account setup with your credit card rather than bank...

If sending GIFT and you don't have the paypal funds to cover it and you are set up on a credit card... paypal will ask if you want to charge the fee to yourself or the recipient.

THANK YOU saint ... for the sticky... (edit: that sounds vaguely dirty....)

:D

Ken is the man who knows everything, helps everybody and asks for nothing.

OK.... the drive ends tonight... we've surpassed last time around which is freakin' AWESOME. Ken is looking at another 2+ years of internet and if I have anything to say about it closer to 3 years. I plan on calling Century Link and negotiating a better deal tomorrow.

BRAVO PEOPLE!

YOU ROCK!
