So I was on vacation last week, and of course I searched out every coin-op I could find. I must have come across 6-7 Pac/Ms.Pac/Jr. Pac machines, and every single one was "fast," where your character is light speed and the rest of the game moves normally. Personally, I dislike the modified pac games. For instance, on Ms. Pac I got to the "junior" cut-scene twice, and eventually died mostly due to lack of interest, a little over 120,000 points- normally I wouldn't get a third of that. I can see the variations as a novelty, but to leave a machine sped up seems to dull the game a bit.
What speed of pac do you prefer, and do you run any non-standard versions on your MAME or dedicated cabs?

I hadn't run into the "speed" hack until relatively recently, so the novelty hasn't worn off on me yet. I still think it's a hoot to play in that mode after 30 years of "slow" Pac-Man.

Regular pacman, normal speed. Anything else ruins the game.
Ms Pac, I can go either way on that. The speedup chip makes the game move along a bit faster, but also makes it a bit too easy.
JR Pac, speedup all the time. Its just to fricken hard without it. Its pretty hard *with* the speedup chip in really. The monsters hunt you down in no time and there's none of the occasional "favorite corner" visiting to give you a break.
