me, i'm the dummy. currently updating mame from 144 to 146 and i've read in passing that with 146, chd's will use version 5.
well that sounds great on paper but what's an idiot like me to do? i have read that chdman, included in mame, will convert files to the new version 5. i don't want to mess these large files up, anyone care to offer some advice, a walk thru perhaps?
i ran an audit with clrmamepro (mame 146) and came back with 8 missing sets in my final report but the output window while it was running was filled with red x's, i'm guessing those were all chd errors but hell if i know :)
any help is appreciated...

You are going to beat yourself up trying to keep everything up to date if you install every single incremental mame update. I have never done an update as small as just two versions. I generally wait 10 or 15 versions at least.

Plus, I just saw that there was a CHDMAN bug fix for v4 to v5 for version 146u1.
"- 04864: [Misc.] CHDMAN fails to convert v4 to v5"
Not sure what it all means.

I was running .55 until really recently when I upgraded to something around 1.06 and I only did that to get analog mousewheel input.
