Title: Vacation in Florida....Arcades?
Post by: Luigi on June 12, 2012, 05:00:17 am
Hi everybody.

We will be on vacation in Florida from July 4 to July 21. Our rough goals are: Tampa, some nice place south of it, Miami, Key West, Fort Lauderdale, Cocoa Beach, Orlando, Tampa.

Are there any arcades around you would suggest to visit?

Thanks  :)

For Orlando I would suggest Disney Quest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisneyQuest) in Downtown Disney. They have about 400 games all set to free play!

Thanks for your reply  :)

Oh, it's inside a theme park. We will spend a day at "Wet'n Wild" (kids wanted). I'm afraid I won't be able to make them spend another day in a park and leave me in the arcade whole they queue half of the day for attractions

Maybe if there's really bad weather on that day we might change plans....I'll keep that in mind  ;)
(I can imagine my wife when we would "discover" that there's a huge arcade in that park  ;D )

It's not inside the parks. Downtown Disney is a shopping/eating/cinema/partying area outside the disney parks.

There is a McDonalds in Orlando somewhere that houses an arcade upstairs ... damned if I can remember where it was.

Ah, that sounds better :)  So the admission fee has to be paid for the arcade only and all games are free?
However, I have made a note in my smartphone. We will arrive in Orlando in the afternoon before the day we will go to Wet'n Wild so we have the afternoon and the evening.....

@Cheffo: if you remember, please let me know  :applaud:

Nevertheless....since it is announced the "World's largest McDonalds" and it looks nice when lit in the evening I will try to get there :)

Two websites I use a lot when my fiance and I go on vacations.

A good website.  Type in state and/or city.  They have more information including websites most of the time.

Not as good and not updated very often.  But you might find some additional ones to research.

It's been a few years since I was there last but I think they had a decent selection of games.

Thanks a lot to both of you  :)

@flashiv: I have found some arcade spots in Florida....we will see if we can make to one of them :)

@JMB: Do you know more about the Funspot? Is there a general entrance fee or can we simply go there and spend $0.25 per videogame? Not very interested in the rides and tracks....

Damn, 141 games at Disney Quest in Orlando and a bunch of classics  :o   but no Journey

Please let me ask again about that, I'm still confused. As far as I understand information on the homepage (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/destinations/downtown-disney/entertainment/disney-quest-indoor-interactive-theme-park/) we have to pay an entrance fee, which is $38-$44 and can then play all games for free. Well, that would be good for me and my son..... but my wife and daughter....  ::)

Another question.

We will be in New York for 3 days before we go on to Florida. I found Dave & Busters there and their "store details" say:

Quote
House Policies
Maximum 5 minors
to 1 adult.

21 and up.
Guardian age 25.
Non-smoking.

My kids are 14 and 11 years old....are they allowed to be there? It says "maximum 5 minors to 1 adult" but also "21 and up"  ??? ???

You could go in the arcade without having to pay the ticket prices for the go kart tracks or the rides.

Thanks. Though I must admit that the large track looks very interesting....

Funspot is only a few minutes away from our motel in Orlando :)

Your kids can go in Dave and Buster's. The 21 and up is because they also serve alcohol.
