Title: Anyone have gifs working in Mala 174?, EDIT: GIFS don't work in Windows 7
Post by: BadMouth on June 08, 2012, 07:50:09 pm
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but my GIF isn't moving.

It's in the layout under video2.
It shows up, but it isn't moving.

I read a comment that said it had to be the same size as the layout, so I resized the GIF and still nothing.
That doesn't make a lot of sense anyway since transparency isn't supported.

In the layout editor, it will let me resize the window and the gif will show up bigger or smaller based on that.
I extended it to the edges of the layout so it said the size was 1024 x 728.  Still no dice.

What am I missing here?

You can only use animated gifs in a video window,  ;D

glad you're still around.

I am using a video window though.  (video2)
If I change the path to an AVI, it plays fine in that window, but my GIF doesn't move.

It's not that big of a deal, as I'm not sure I want animated GIFs in my layout,
but I wanted to test out some concepts for new layouts.
I've only tried one GIF, maybe I should try some others.

Does it matter what size the GIF is or if the window is resized?

Why don't you just turn the .gif to an avi?

Tried it on the Vista computer that will be used in the cabinet and it works fine.
GIF doesn't have to be any particular size and can be resized in the MALA layout editor.

I think this is a Windows 7 issue, as the ability to view GIFs in windows photo viewer was removed and can supposedly be restored by using an old xp driver.

EDIT: Be wary of programs claiming to add the functionality to Windows photo viewer.  I installed a couple last night (which didn't appear to have any effect) and had to spend this evening removing a trojan from my laptop.  The files were scanned with AVAST before installation and it said there weren't any problems, but it was mistaken.

I don't need to use GIFs in Windows 7 anyway, so I'm not worried about it being fixed.
Decided against using GIFs completely, in fact.

Nobody else has mentioned them not working, so I doubt it's worth going to much trouble to fix.  :lol
