Title: The future core to your cab?
Post by: bsktbllmn23 on June 06, 2012, 12:15:01 pm
I was reading this while getting ready for work, and I have seen other postings about small computers for bartops and what not.

This could be nice, the price point doesnt seem to bad either. Although it wont be available for a little bit.

Ever since I became a member here, it takes everything within me not to troll through these forums and day dream about what my cab is going to look like someday. Thanks for all the inspirations guys!

Edit: I should probably include the link... wow...

I bet this thing would work well in a cab running a front end other than Hyperspin. I like the form factor but the whole docking terminal idea is a bit off.

in todays day and age you dont need that much power for most arcade games.

i highly doubt i will ever use something like that while i can still post a request on a local trade internet site and get 5 old computers for free in two days. i can buy small HD's for next to nothing and even if i dont have the original game board working i can make a dedicated MAME cabinet to play it off of the old computer.

i personally dont see the point in investing hundreds of dollars into equiptment that will not be used to the fullest when i can get the same game play from a free machine.

EDIT: dont get me wrong, i would love one to use in my house cause i am a geek, but my cabs i try to keep low cost.

I don't get the point either, while some folks are wasting time sticking weirdo hardware, game consoles hacked to run mame (really???), and brand new gaming PCs into cabinets I just use any old computer that someone was throwing out and get the same results, if not better.

I agree, you can get plenty of free stuff that will provide great results. I started getting into this hobby because I was able to get 3 Dell Mini 10's for free and 2 27" Tv's for free as well and figured, why not turn them into cabs?!

BUT, after going through all these posts with guys like Nephasth and TheShaner doing crazy cool work with incredible set ups, its pretty much all i think about on any given day haha.

So when I saw how small this was, I just HAD to post to see what the community thought.
