This may not help you, but I was just posting about my craving for a NEO-GEO and an all-in-one cart. Maybe a NEO-GEO would be easier to find stateside (although I guess most of them would be the familiar red woodies) and maybe easier to service? It would certainly give you more options than a standard JAMMA, unless it was just a 1-slot.

the thing i like most about the candy cabinets are the large screen size. is there any american made arcade machines with large screens?

Of course, but most of those are racing cabinets with specialized seating/controls... the REALLY big screens are usually separate from the main cabinet. You're right, though... it's not very common for screens in "all-in-one" cabs in the U.S. to be quite as large as the ones in candy cabs.
As usual, this reminds me of something I've experienced recently. Yeah, I know... :blah: The "next thread" button is right over there, by the way. :P
SUPER GAMES MUSEUM, my first MAME cab, is a cocktail model that originally had maybe a 17" horizontal CRT, and I replaced that with a vertical monitor that's around 14", still not unusual for a cocktail. My next project, FLYNN'S, is a mini-cab, so its 15" SVGA monitor doesn't really look out of place either. The really weird thing is that when I go out and play "real" arcade machines, the monitors all look too big to me and it's not as fun to play. I guess I feel like my eyes have to move too much to follow the action, and I'm more likely to lose because of that. Could this be some kind of strategy by arcade operators? For whatever reason, I'm running into a lot of "classic" machines that have like 25" to 27" monitors instead of the 19" or so they originally came with. I guess this might be down to decreased availability of smaller CRTs, or just the "bigger is better" mentality coupled with a small price difference between the "right" size and a bigger size that will still fit.
Has anybody else noticed this? Is bigger always more comfortable to play, or does anyone else feel "lost" playing classic games with very simplistic graphics on a huge monitor?

My candies have 29" CRT's... games look AWESOME on them.

I've seen that with the classic machines at my local arcade (they're actually Dynamos running the classics, not the classics themselves). The larger monitors don't bother me so much as sloppy controls would.

Nothing is going to play all of those stock, you'll have to do some work. I would suggest start with something that is set up for JAMMA, and go for there.
I have 2 Capcom Impress, they are CPS2 systems (JAMMA plus a kick harness for buttons 4-6).

what kind of modifications would be needed to play everything?
-
Be careful, there's some super cheap CGA monitors on the market these days. I haven't heard a single good thing about any of them.
Are most of these types of cabinets sharing the 2-joystick/3-button control panel layout? I think that would be a major limitation to conversion-to-MAME if the CP real estate is too limited.

Well it's kind of awkward but I think yotsuya was really talking about your place. I hear he's been spending a lot of time there when you're not home. >:D

It probably is just a fuse. Or needs a cap kit. Or a Big Blue.

Nah, if I really wanted to be mean, I'd tell him to get my Pole Position working... :banghead:

I thought your PP was working. What's wrong with that one again?

I thought your PP was working. What's wrong with that one again?
I had it working for 5 minutes... then it croaked again. Displays garbage on screen... I'm guessing it's power related. Going to yank out the Atari power supply and AR boards, and replace with a switching power supply and a pair of mono audio amps. Also going to mod the board itself to get a better power distribution.

PP is hard one. I have a nice working PP but it's only a matter of time before it dies. I have been hunting for a PPII boardset for quite some time but haven't found one yet.

I have a PPII boardset, but it doesn't work. My plan is to get the PP up and running, and then try to bring the PPII set back to life.
