Title: Bondo or New CP? Happ to JLF
Post by: csnow on June 05, 2012, 08:30:01 pm
I am working on my showcase cabinet conversion, and I am at a crossroad on the CP.  I have decided to move to JLF controllers instead of the Happ Comps that came in the original Xmen vs SF cabinet.  I am going to bottom mount the JLF's, so I was curious if I can still use my original CP.  Can I just bondo the original mounting holes and reuse the center hole?  I am not sure if the center hole is too big or if the dust cover of the JLF will cover it.  Is this CP usable or do I need to start over  :dunno  I would like to reuse this if possible since I spent the afternoon getting those darn decals off  :banghead:

Short answer, yes.  Bondo is pretty cheap and fantastic when you know how to work with it.  I would get a scrap piece of wood, drill holes like how you have and work with Bondo a little bit getting a better feel for it.  Once you get it down go to work on the CP.  For the small Drill holes you can just Bondo and be good to go.  For the large hole if it's too big you can always fill it but that takes a little more finesse (Usually need another piece of wood, like a core hole from a hole saw and then wood glue/Bondo to finish it.

Kahlid is absolutly right,

use a hole saw to get the right diamerter, or buy some dowel that fits snug, for the small holes you can just bondo, the button hole and joystick holes if you need to redrill do the wood/dowel fill and snuggy with bondo.

i like that kahlid told you to practice too... alot of people forget to say practice,

also remember to wear some latex gloves when working with bondo...

Yes this.  It's less like wood putty on your hands and more like super glue.  Hands protection is a must.
