Title: Help - anyone use MAMEPlus?
Post by: Cynicaster on June 03, 2012, 08:01:17 pm
For the last year or so I've been running MAMEPlus v0.122 on my cabinet because I like the high score support.  It's been working fine.

Here's what's weird--I wanted to set my brother up with high score support on his rig, but when I tried to put my version of MAMEPlus on his computer, Microsoft Security Essentials was flagging a security threat, saying the MAMEPlus contains a "password stealer".

I'm not sure how big of a deal it is for me because my cabinet is not on the internet, but naturally it still bugs me.  Honestly, I can't even remember where I got this copy of MAMEPlus--obviously not from a very trustworthy site.  I do know that I specifically wanted v0.122 because I have a full rom set for MAME v0.122.  I'd like to get a clean install but I can't seem to find older versions of MAMEPlus to save my life.  I'd hate to lose a full year's worth of high score data by moving to a new version.

Anybody ever had this problem with MAMEPlus, or know where I can get a "clean" version of v0.122?

So I guess nobody uses MAMEPlus?

What about compiling my own version of MAME with hiscore.dat enabled?  I wonder if that would recognize the high score data I’ve accumulated using MAMEPlus, assuming I stick with v0.122?  Can custom compiling still be done on older versions (i.e., v0.122)?  Actually, I’ve no doubt that it can be done, I’m more wondering if it’s doable for a novice.  I spent quite some time searching the forums here and everything seemed to lead back to some thread posted on MAMEworld by a guy named Mr. Do that contains a cookbook approach for compiling MAME.  I found my way over there and it doesn’t look very difficult but there is a note that says the instructions apply for v0.130-something and higher.  I did manage to find a file called “hi_122.diff” which I believe is the enhancement code I need to bake into the base MAME code to get what I’m after, but I’m pretty lost on where to get the right compiler and all that.

Anybody know where I can find instructions on the process that apply for older versions?  Or should I just cut my losses here?

I use MAMEPlus, but have never had it set off any anti-virus software.
I started at v.137 and don't pay attention to the hi-scores, so I'm not much help.

You could try an older version of Headkaze's MAME Compiler:
http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mame&page=mc64 (http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mame&page=mc64)
(scroll down to "Older Versions of MAME" )

The hi score diffs for past builds are stickied in the BYOAC software forum.

I use mame plus 0.145. Never had it flagged by anti virus...... But that may be because i don't use antivirus :D. If i were you i would try and find a clean one from another site. Maybe download the source and then compile it yourself if need be
