Title: Do I need a ArcadeVGA 3000 Card PCIe with a Makvision 29"
Post by: TheShaner on May 14, 2012, 09:57:17 am
I have a Makvision 29" trisync svga monitor coming in the mail today.  I didnt think about it until just now, but I dont really have a video card for the computer I have decased.  It has onboard of course, but I had just planned on getting a medium grade video card if I even needed it.

The question is, should I get a ArcadeVGA 3000 Card PCIe from Ultimarc?  Is there a need with this monitor, or would I be better off getting a better card for the same price or a little more at Best Buy or something?  My hunch is yes because of the refresh rates it supports, but I would like the opinions of the board.  Thanks!

It depends on the resolution at which you wish to run your games. If you run everything at 640x480, probably not. If you want to run games at native resolutions like 320x240 then you need the arcadevga or run soft15khz with appropriate hardware and drivers.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I had figured. I am so far down the rabbit hole already on this project it would be dumb not to go ahead and do the last part right, so I ordered one.
