I am going to replace my current jamma harness but not having any experience with these things am worried I may buy the wrong kind of replacement harness. Can anyone let me know if they are all the same? Iv seen a few on eBay but won't order just yet.

All jamma harnesses are the same but there are some small differences such as jamma plus that needs a kick harness or neo geo which is somethimes true jamma and other times a bit different. Overall a jamma hareness with get you there as long as you are aware that some boards have slight changes or additions. When buying a jamma harness make sure it is labeled in english and you are 99 percent there. The ones that are labeled in Chinese are alot harder to work with.
In short if you need a standard jamma harness the it is the same for all machines. Make sure the harness you get follows the standard for power leads as they are of a lower gauge (bigger) than signal wires.

Thanks for the quick reply I will be using the harness with a Jpac unit.
Which of these EBay finds would be most suited?

They all look like cheap, partially wired Chinese crap to me.
I'm not even sure if you can buy decent JAMMA harnesses nowadays.
I make mine from scratch.
-
Prewired jamma harnesses are great... don't even think about trying to wire your own... As far as differences go I did run into 1 difference that messed me up a little... I ordered a jamma harness from jammaboards.com and the connectors on the ends that were to connect to the joysticks had .187 quick connects, but all the buttons had .110 quick connects. This sucked because all my pushbuttons were happ competitions with .187 microswitches. The Harness I bought from paradisearcadeshop.com had .187 quick connects all around.

Thanks buddy must admit I was a bit concerned about them looking cheap

The only decent one I've seen online are the ones from Arcade Spare Parts.

You have to be really careful with the cheap made in China ones. They say they have 18ga power leads, but in reality, they just use thicker insulation over the same 22ga wire to make them look that way.

Avoid the Chinese-made ones. Look for the blue ones that are made in Japan, they're higher quality. Not all the blue ones are Japan-made, but most are, if you can find 'em.

Isn't that company based in China where the lesser quality ones are made.
ARCADE SPARE PARTS
Flat D, 12/F, Mai Luen Industrial Building, 23-31 Kung Yip Street,
Kwai Chung, N.T. Hong Kong
If you rate them I may take the chance and order with them.

Yeah, but not mainland China, haha. It's a pretty decent harness. I've bought both and that one is orders of magnitude better.
-
Iv taken a chance and ordered one :)

Last I heard, Bob Roberts was still selling real JAMMA harnesses with AWG18 for power and AWG20 (!!) for signals. He uses the Molex crimp style connectors, too, not the solder eyelet ones that break apart.

Would love to know where to buy those connectors as Molex has them listed now as 'obsolete'.
