Title: Connecting an original XBOX to a PC Monitor - Solved and Success
Post by: rablack97 on May 11, 2012, 12:50:48 am
Anybody familiar with this?

Has anyone ever done this, and how do you do it.

I've been all over the web and can't find a decent tutorial or answer.

Is this comparable to the X2VGA?

I take it this is the fool proof best way to do it?

Isn't this the same thing?

I dont think they make X2VGA's anymore, if you have a link, please share.

The HDPRO's come from China, i recall a hobbyist saying it took him 2 months to get the thing.  Never got the lowdown on whether it was worth it.

This does me no good unless you plan on building me one, and by that time, i might as well get one of the boxes for the same price, no?

I've found a few Dell 19" monitors for like USD 30 a piece.  Want to know if it's worth the trouble, cause if none of these work then im screwed with a closet full of monitors.

So, if it is a sync on green monitor, a soft modded xbox it should would with the cheaper vga to component cable?

Or does it still need some type of converter chip to work?

I haven't done it myself but in this thread (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=553930&st=250&p=4068914&#entry4068914), specifically in posts numbers 280 and 281 you'll see an example of how you can hook up to a "SOG" monitor.

You will still need to run a modded VGA BIOS but the sync separator chip is NOT necessary if you have an SOG monitor.

Some monitors may show a green tint without a flashed bios, if you have an Xbox 1-1.5 then you can either flash a new bios or run the frosty softmod . My monitor doesn't support SoG so i need to build a cable with the lm1881 sync splitter
If you have a 1.6 box the only option you have is a video convertor board, of course you could use this for any xbox if you wanted and between consoles.

The cheapest route, which im going to follow and I'll update if it works.  Buy the following

VGA to RCA Cable $1.90 (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023503&p_id=6025&seq=1&format=2)
RCA Coupler $.68 (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10430&cs_id=1043009&p_id=3002&seq=1&format=2)
Xbox Component Cable 3.99 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/XBOX-COMPONENT-CABLE-High-Definition-AV-Audio-Video-Cord-HD-TV-HDTV-NEW-/140633283232?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item20be659aa0)

Locate a compatible Sync on Green Monitor (craigslist), which shouldn't be difficult, folks are giving away Dell 19" monitors with SOG these days. I've located a few for a about $30.00.

Finally Upgrade Softmod with Frosty's Dual-Boot VGA Softmod v1.0

My parts came in and I've tested this setup and it works perfect. You have to tweak the monitor screen via the monitor menu, and the xbox menus to get it to fullscreen.  Looks really good....Super Happy Now...

I found the component to VGA cable - going to try it out later tonight and see if I have a working VGA out for my next cab.

Still want a X Arcade in there though, even though a pad hack would suffice.
