Maximus is very good.  I don't believe that it is still being developed and you have to pay for it but other than that it works just fine.  It is really easy to setup if you want to compare it to Hyperspin.

What does Maximus bring to the table over and above MaLa?  I use the latter and I'm happy with it, my only gripe is the background music feature doesn't work.

I dont like the menu systems very much,  It should be perfect but I always seem to get frustrated with it..  I probably need to read the instructions a bit

I'm tinkering with Hyperspin at the moment for a bartop for a coworker.  I really enjoy it.  It does take some getting used to the hyperhq, but once you figure that out it's easy peezy!

Nothing.  It doesn't really have many options.
It's biggest feature is that it's easy for newbs.

Good choice for people who want a front-end without putting much work into it.
Bad choice for people who want something unique.

Might have to turn some settings down, theres just too much going on.. I think I prefer something a little more functional, less glossy

Iv always found Mamewah to be a pretty decent front end and you can customise it to your liking. If you want video previews you can add them or just have a list of games, create custom lists etc. why not try a few different front ends and see which suits you needs best.

If you're looking for a functional yet simple graphic interface, you might want to look at MAMEUIFX.

http://mame32fx.altervista.org/home.htm (http://mame32fx.altervista.org/home.htm)

I've been using it for the last year and a half.

It is easy to configure and uses the same standard files used by many front ends for game descriptions, screencaps, marquees, cab pics, cp pics, etc.

+1 for MaLa. But I fear it is no longer being developed. Loadman has not posted anything for quite some time, and only appears to log on once every 2 - 3 months.

AHA I'm not the only one with background music issues. I didn't know it was a known issue. I'll stop trying to figure out what I did wrong then.

I would avoid Maximus. It would b an awesome program if the developer was still working on it to fix the bugs and add more functions. But since he's not, u end up paying for a buggy program that will never get any better. Plus, I hear that some ppl who buy it never get the registration code sent to them. And I understand u cant get ahold of the developer very easily to get it. I got tired of dealing with the bugs and switched to GameEx. Takes a little more time to setup and figure out, but it's a very versatile front end that has awesome support.

It really is a top notch frontend. Tom (the programmer) will practically bend over backwards to fix bugs. And there are some great guys who will help answer any questions users might have over at the GameEx forums. So make sure u head over there if u get stuck!
