Title: Mame Cabinet, Xbox vs PC
Post by: kyomagi on May 01, 2012, 02:56:17 pm
So i am almost done with the cabinet, but i have a issue. Do i want to use my current unused xbox system that is running softmod and mame with emulators or should i pony up for a pc build?  dont really care about the look, just as long as the xbox runs the arcade games

Can you make the xbox work without spending another dime? If so, go with the xbox. If you have to spend much for an interface to the controls, I would consider using a PC. The problem I had with the xbox was running a lot of the fighting games at full speed.

xbox plays almost all games full speed. only games you cant play are cps3 and emulated 3d games. but you can play xbox version of sf3 3rd strike and other 3d fighting games like soul calibur/dead or alive.

Id say stick to xbox.  :burgerking:

An Xbox is inexpensive but a PC (even an old, cheap one) will always be more versatile. The downside is you'll have a bit more wiring/software set up to do. Going with leapinlew on this one: If you can get the Xbox running in your arcade without having to drop significantly more money - give it a shot (at worst, you've only lost time should you be dissatisfied.)

if your handy with soldering hooking up arcade controls wouldn't be that much of an issue but yes your going to run into problems connecting it to a CGA monitor if however your using a converted TV or LCD then i'd say go for it like dave said only thing to loose is time.

If you have a xbox with 60gb free space.

Download Coinops 4. Its about 56GB has all the classics running at full speed. Also for the CPS 3 games. There are xbox rips within Coinops so they play fine.

If you have the cash an prepared to set up the pc. Go for it much more options an games to be played.

I just like the hussle free of my xbox.
