Title: About to start (what joysticks are these)?
Post by: sho on April 26, 2012, 06:27:53 am
Yet another long time lurker, finally with the intent to move.
I am currently going in circles on what should be the first build, initially nothing less than a full size (Dynamo with a Knievel CP) with laminate and t-molding was acceptable, now I am to the point where I think a "simple" Weecade clone would be a good idea, if nothing else to see if I have what it takes when it comes to woodworking.

Last year I got myself an U360 with a Front-Mount Restrictor Kit in preparation, but my initial reaction to trying it out in Pacman (no buttons at the time) were not that favourable.
Since then I have played around with the U360 with MaLA and the UltraStik Mapper plugin, it's simply a thing of beauty and I am back full circle.

Years ago I acquired a couple of these generic nondescript joysticks, help with ID-ing them would be appreciated. I think I will go with the U360 though.

OK, lots of hits, but no takers ;) I wonder if these generic sticks are not that common then?

On to other things. I want my bartop to have two players, preferably 6 buttons. Is the standard Weecade sufficiently wide for that? (450mm / 17.7").
From other postings I gather it might be a bit of a squeeze, but is there any magic number?

Don't remember who made those, but I remember them be'n common in cranes and things like that.

Thank you boardjkunkie.

Building has now commenced and I think I will be going for a Bubble Bobble theme (after all the title theme has been my ring tone since sometimes in the nineties  ;D )
Does anyone know of good Bubble Bobble art? I would prefer to to have Bub and Bob on each side.

Also I will be going to the States in June and was hoping to source some supplies there, what marquee backlighting would you guys suggest for a Weecade? (All the LED strips I have seen locally are prohibitively expensive)

Yet another thing, building according to Koenings pdf plan, the proportions of the cab were not what i would have expected, has anyone else noticed this or am I doing something wrong?
The height on the plans is 540mm (approx 21.25") and baseplate depth 386mm (approx 15.2") but once transferred to the MDF it was about an inch higher with the depth correct, resulting in my backplate being too short!  :dizzy:

Zomghi2u!  So you're looking for cheap marquee lighting - they make fluorescent light holders with lights for about 10 USD in most hardware stores.  They're compact and work well.

Cool, looks like the art from this project (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=100541.0).
I have also come across this oh so promising art from Zor (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&twu=1&u=http://vector-zorg.blogspot.com/2011/10/teasing-bubble-bobble.html&usg=ALkJrhjzVL7k5Rhu2AY8v2bf9v87hEY00A)g, too bad it looks like he never made a CPO or Marquee to match.

They look like some kind of Euro stick. I don't see any microswitches.....but the bottom part looks too small to be an inductive stick. Hmmmm.

Yes, the microswitches are missing from this one.
