Title: trying to get 256x224 on VGA - Scart cable on CRT TV
Post by: filevans on April 22, 2012, 12:50:47 pm
hello all,

i have a vga to scart lead running on my crt tv, and i'm trying to get the resolution of 256 x 224 for playing SNES, NES, PC-Engine, Megadrive & some Arcade games but not able to get this res to display correctly, i have tried 2 different PCs both with Geforce graphics cards, 1 is an older AGP 256mb it is an FX 5700 LE, and the newer PC has a PCI-E 8500 GT on it 512mb,

as the resolution wouldn't display using only soft 15khz i've also tried powerstrip and winmodelines but can't get it to display properly no matter what settings i try

i am running the following resolutions on the FX 5700 LE card without any problems: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 640x288 but i specifically want to get the lower resolutions for old games but can't seem to get them

i appreciate it anyone could help me get these lower resolutions, or if my card isn't capable of them, could someone recommend a good card that will support lots of low resolutions native to old consoles and arcade

thank you all

If you're getting those other resolutions but not the lo-res modes, my guess is that your cards don't support low dot clocks.

When I first got into this, I always thought my TV wasn't capable of showing those modes (picture was always scrambled) but then I tried out a cheap ATI X300 suddenly every mode was available. :)

thanks, i've since been told that if i try other drivers for my geforce that will likely fix it, but i don't really know what drivers i should try instead
