Title: They came....from VERMINEST!
Post by: Gray_Area on April 22, 2012, 01:30:40 am
I'm surprised no one posted on this here. (I don't remember seeing so, and nothing comes up in a search.)

I've been lolly-gagging on trying this out, but the trailer worth the price of admission. Oh, that's right, it's free.

They Came From Verminest is a great Galaga tribute game, with a nod to other classics like Centipede and Asteroids from the creator of Hydorah. It also tributes the classic sci-fi movies from the 50's complete with 3D effects (if you've got the old blue and red glasses).

Played around with it and its a nice little game - even very cab friendly: It's a simple .exe file, it has an attract mode when you start it and refers to your bindings as "buttons" (i.e. Press Button 2 for Video Mode).  The only thing I haven't figured out is if it can run in vertical mode for people with their monitors oriented that way (or those who rotate).

I see there's also a simpler version on their site (They Came From Verminest '83) with a simpler color palette - haven't tried it yet.

I was going to post this a while back but I think it ended up in the "cab friendly PC games" thread... so I will just +1! A very cool game, and the rest of his stuff is worth checking out, too.

So I finally played this. Pretty easy for a while, with some little spots. It didn't get really hard until the Tarantulas (fourth or fifth planet), but I beat them. The next wave is what got me (I won't spoil it). 64600 at the end.
