Title: WG K7000 focus.....
Post by: jaydye on September 29, 2003, 04:12:55 pm
Hi,

I have a Wells Gardner k7000 19" monitor

The problem I have  is the picture is out of focus or fuzzy

I have adjusted the focus knob on the flyback transformer but that did not help

Any ideas?

Also there is a significant amount of colour 'bleed', whould a cap kit cure that problem ?

TIA
Cheers
Jay

If adjusting the flyback controls didn't clear up your pic, I would start with a cap kit and see if that fixes your problem first.  Cap kits are very simple to do and shouldn't take you more than 2 hours for a K7000 if it is your first one.

If that doesn't help, you may have some yoke adjustments to make.  Do a search on RGVAC (http://groups.google.com/groups?q=group%3Arec.games.video.arcade.collecting&btnG=Search&meta=site%3Dgroups) for your specific problem and monitor to see if you can dig something up.

Jay,

you can always go to Bob Robert's site, get a listing of what comes in the kit, and go to any electronic component shop and buy them there.  The important thing to keep in mind is the capacitance (in Farads) should be the same, but the other ratings can be as much or more. (current).

Heck, even Bob sends you caps rated at higher current!

Thanks I'll take a look :)

I've also read that a faulty flyback transformer can cause the bad focus problem, but obviously the cap kit would be the cheapest thing to try first.

I'll post if/when I've sorted it out.

Cheers

You can probably email Bob and just ask him for a cap list for that monitor.

Also, in the past I have capped a few "mystery" monitors (black & whites, monitors out of rare import cabinets, etc), that no one had kits available for. So I just pulled the monitor boards and wrote down all the caps and made my own kit.

Go to www.ionpool.net and click on "capkit" for a list of capacitors in the kits. Do a capkit first then see what the picture looks like. You might need to adjust a couple of the trimpots on the neckboard and/or the brightness/contrast controls after doing the kit.

If none of that helps then you'll need to connect the picture tube to a picture tube restorer/analyzer to check/repair the color guns inside the tube.
