Title: Why should I use MaLa?
Post by: P-chan on April 19, 2012, 02:45:07 pm
MaLa looks very cool and has lots of different layout options, I like that it supports animated layouts and plugins, etc.

However, I'm currently running mGalaxy as a front-end just because I wanted something super-simple, I only have two real requirements:

1) Show me a snap while I'm going through the game list
2) Play a random MP3 song while I'm choosing a game

mGalaxy works great, but I get the feeling that I'm missing out on some cool functionality by not using MaLa.

FWIW, I am using MAME 0.145, and will be using two u360 joysticks/6 button layout.  My cabinet is not built yet, but I will have keyboard and mouse access once complete.

Pro's:  Horizontal and vertical layouts, making it a strong contender for those that rotate their monitors or have vertical monitors.  Very versatile with lots of options and appearance control.

Con's:  It's a little buggy, support and development are decent but uneven.

It's free so give it a try, can always switch back with no sweat.

Interesting....horiz/vert operation is actually something I could use (but it's not mandatory), as I plan to rotate my monitor....  However with my current setup, I could of course select the game, then rotate the monitor.  The cab will be a pedestal with the monitor mounted on the wall, so it's easy.

Rock on.  Post up your pedestal when you get going on it.
