Title: Tempest Mame .145 - Black Screen
Post by: evh347 on April 16, 2012, 03:32:55 am
I invited friends over and the one damn game I couldn't show them was the first one they picked!

All I get is a black screen when attempting to run Tempest in Mame 145.

I've got a clean set of roms, no issues with other roms to report.

Is this an incorrectly forced resolution problem?  How do i fix?

Are you using groovymame and Calamity's ATI drivers?

No, what is that?

Always ask about/research game behavior at MAMEWorld. Likely someone else has found it, and much likelier someone will speedily confirm it.

If you don't know, then you aren't using and that's not the problem.  There is an issue for some people with certain setups who use groovymame.  Sorry I couldn't help.

I solved the problem!  It is a resolution/screen format that Mame is forcing (or maybe a driver problem) so that only a blank screen is displayed.  I recommend this procedure for any similar issues going forward.

To fix, Right Click on the ROM, Choose "Properties", Display Tab, Change the 'rotation' drop down to "anti-clockwise", click "Apply" and then "OK". Then run the Rom and go into the game config menu (TAB). The Config menu will be on its side. Arrow down to "Video Options" and hit ENTER. Arrow down to "Rotate" and cycle thru until you see "None".

The Config menu stays awkwardly on its side, but the game will run upright and non-windowed.
