Title: First project: Simpsons bartop
Post by: Rok on April 15, 2012, 09:37:42 pm
So, after a couple of weekends, my first real woodworking project, a bartop cabinet, is nearly complete. The build is basically done (except for marquee lighting and top holder) and now its onto wiring the CP and configuring the computer/Hyperspin etc.

I based my plans off of the Kator Legaz (sp?) pictures, but had to wing quite a bit of the internals.

I'm using an HP thin client with 2 gHz cpu, 1 gb ram (I think, not sure on this one) and a 4 gb DOM running Tiny XP and Hyperspin. Not the most powerful under the hood, but it should run most games I want to play. It was free and it has a TINY footprint (like 10x10x1, crazy small).

The art is Simpsons themed, made to match my Simpsons Party Pinball pin in order to make an awesome game room.

Heh, that looks pretty cool. I like it.

That sideart is the "character poster" right?  Is it the same on both sides?

Yep. It only cost me about 9 bucks to buy two of the posters from Amazon. Also, fun fact: I found out last night that its actually the exact same art used on the Party Pinball cabinet, just without the white wash-y filter.

Its not exactly the same due to the shape of the cabinet and thus I had to use different sides of the poster. I cut around the tops of the heads of the top row of people and put a second cut out beneath and above it to make the characters go all the way up the sides since the people only cover about 16 vertical inches on the poster.

I'll grab a pic next time I'm there.

Got the CP wired to my Keywiz and my fans and speakers wired up.

I need to wire one more fan directly over the computer heat sink and then wire the power supply/smart strip/etc and I should be up and running!!

Aaaaand its done! Played a few games on it this morning. I love how it turned out.

Further work down the road:

1) Finish the marquee/light it maybe
2) Add a spinner (I love Tempest...)
3) Replace the power cables and VGA cable with shorter ones to reduce excess cable length inside
