Title: Monitor NOOB question: Powering a Monitor?
Post by: Hadeys on April 15, 2012, 06:00:59 pm
Hey guys, I am new to the world of arcade monitors, and I was wonder how you can power one of these without the games power supply?  I have a Daytona USA cab with a Nanao monitor that I was hoping to put in my mame cabinet which is currently using a CRT computer monitor.  I discharged the monitor and disconnected from the PCB, and I've removed the monitor from the cabinet, but I don't understand how to plug it in.  Am I missing something, or is this somewhat complicated?

I should also state that I have heard of isolation transformer, but I'm not sure what it is or how it works, or where to aquire one.  Is this what I need?

you will need an mains isolation transformer like you stated
if you have a the donor cab then you just transfer over the monitor wiring and transformer

Its a Nanao ms8-26su monitor. I took a look at it today and I was unable to find any way to power it still.  Can anybody give me some insight on this?  Where is the isolation transformer located, and what does it look like?

It normally looks something like this
(http://origin-images.ttnet.net/pi/eto/10/03/06/97/10030697-193.jpg)
You normally find it very close to the power cord that goes into the cabinet, from there you'll maybe find that somewhere the ac 110 / 220 volt is split in 2, one voltage will go to the transformer, and the other one to the arcade psu.

Hope this might help.

The Nanao monitor in a Daytona does not require an isolation transformer as it has a switched mode pwr supply, the AC input is a small 1/2 inch wide connector 2 pronged at edge of the chassis, it is a rarely used plug in the industry and I have no idea LOL where to get a new one, but as stated it should be in the cabinet
