Title: Good place to buy wire
Post by: spkywlnt73 on April 07, 2012, 05:08:04 pm
Does anybody know of a good place online to buy hookup wire from? Looking for 22 gauge stranded I'd Think. For my last few projects I bought some wire from Radioshack and it seemed way to stiff, I need something a little more flexible. Thanks!

I buy my stuff from this eBay seller (http://www.ebay.com/sch/acdcelectricparts/m.html?_nkw=hookup+wire&_sacat=0&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3911.c0.m270.l1313). I get spools of 1000' at a time.

I bought this cab from this guy on CL and it didn't work. So I lifted up the CP and I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Every single wire was the same color. Every damn one! It was madness! There must have been 1000' feet of wire inside this rats nest from Hell and every damn wire was the same color! The guy even replaced every wire inside the computer and monitor to be the same color! No wonder he sold it to me, he couldn't tell what went where! :banghead:

OH MY GOD! I'm going blind just looking at the inside of this thing! :dizzy:

DAMN YOU!

Thanks for the link :)

If you want full control over what you're buying (manufacturer, compliances, etc.), Newark [http://www.newark.com/] has a good selection of wire at reasonable (for that market) prices.

The ebay seller's prices above are quite good for generic/no detailed info sales.  I may pick up a couple spools in some colors I'm missing from my assortment.

Hey Nephasth, is that wire solid or stranded I couldn't tell? And thanks for the link!

I took Knievel's advice on this thread:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=55789.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=55789.0)

Just don't go to the Lowe's on 92 in Woodstock Ga.  The don't have anymore  >:D

65' in green, red, yellow, purple, or blue for less than 5 bux.

It's in the doorbell section...hidden low.  I guess wireless bells are becoming the rage...

Get a multimeter and just check the resistance to find opposite ends of the same wire.

If it's an iPac, just load the software, plug it in and start hitting buttons.  It'll tell you what key on the iPac is being pressed.  When you find one that doesn't work, mark it and keep going.  You'll find the bad eventually.

Uh, check out Nephasth's beast thread . . . .

but seriously, every signal wire in my cab is red and every ground is black.  it's still easy to tell what's what because it's all point to point, and bundled, tie wrapped, etc.

It's stranded. I buy his UL1007 since it's the cheapest. Never had any problems with the wire I've gotten from him, been using it for over a year so far.

Mmmm, black on black on black. :lol

Kind of thought that saying a cabinet sported 1000' of wiring was the giveaway  :laugh2:

Of course, I did stay up until 2 AM refactoring a block of code to a 1/3 of it's original size while making Easter baskets for the kids at the same time.
