Title: Smart Strip doesn't 'wake' monitor and TV. Are there settings I'm missing??
Post by: HanoiBoi on April 01, 2012, 02:02:15 pm
I realize this might be a real rookie question, but I can't seem to 'wake' my monitors via Smart Strip.  Are there settings that I might need to visit in the monitors?

I've got smart strips in two machines; one MAME and one Visual Pinball.  In each, the smart strip sends power to everything, but in both, the main monitor (MAME) and TV (pinball) don't seem to 'wake'.  The pinball machine has an actual 'Smart Strip', MAME has a compatible strip.

For both, I need to manually press the power buttons (or 'power' on the remote for TV) to get them to display.

MAME machine has an ASUS monitor.  Pinball machine has a Proscan LCD TV.  The pinball machine is a 3 screen setup and the other monitors have no issue.

In both configurations, the PC is the main device. In both configurations everything powers on.

Any ideas?

Turn the little plastic adjustment screw on the smartstrip

Kill the power on the monitor whilst it's on, then repower ... If the moniter turns itself on then your good, if it doesn't then your monitors don't self wake and inthink you'll need to wire in a switch to the moniter switch contacts....

I didn't read well enough earlier. Most people just leave their computer monitors plugged in all the time and they go to hibernate when there is no computer video signal. I don't think there is any good solution for the TV.

You just have to find a tv model that works.  Some tvs will power on without having to press the on button if using a powerstrip.

btw, I had two different computers plugged into mine.  The first one never really worked well (could get it to turn everything on, then it wouldn't turn off... or other way around).  Then I updated it to a much better machine with a great video card (wanted to play SF4 on it).  Now I was able to adjust it easily.

So build a more power hungry computer...  or have the computer auto turn on with power (some bios' will do this without hardware change) and have the cab turn on/off by the monitor, and put the switch on it.
