Looking for confirmation that I am headed down the right path.
1. Mine is an arcade, not a juke (I may do a separate juke someday). I am looking for basic audio - no need to blow anyone away with the sound. Also, I don't really care if it is exactly like an old game - I am not going for authenticity or anything.
2. My cab came with two pre-cut holes that are just shy of 3 inches diameter (I could always cut them bigger if it were worth the trouble). They are just about at eye level facing towards you when you are playing and are about 4-6 inches from the CRT I am using. So I plan on using shiedled speakers.
3. I have a 2.1 computer speaker system with a volume dongle for this project (Creative brand I think). I am just going to put the sub in the bottom of the cab, maybe secure it with industrial strength Velcro on the bottom to prevent vibration problems, and run the dongle out the back, also secured by Velcro.
The speakers are the big question. I had planned on popping a couple of http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement/jukebox/50900001.htm (http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement/jukebox/50900001.htm) in there, clipping off the existing speakers, and hooking them up using the existing wire. Unfortunately, Happ called and says that they are out of that size.
So I am looking on eBay and at Parts Express and I see lots of other options in the same size, but with very different costs. Now, I don't mind spending the cash on my cab - after all we are talking like an extra $20. But I have to admit that I don't really understand the terms I am seeing - 2 way and all of the different materials for the cone - and don't really want to make a misstep.
I am also wondering if I should just buy a couple of speaker covers and hide my existing satellite speakers behind the openings. Will buying and mounting the speakers be worth the trouble? Again, I don't mind doing it but I don't want to waste my time if it isn't going to make much of a difference.

Since the 2.1 speakers you have are designed to work together I would just mount your R/L speakers and cover them with speaker grills. I don't see any benefit in having new speakers that may or may not match your 2.1 setup. If you have enough room mount the speakers in their housings so that they can benefit from any ports built into the speaker enclosures. You can always use metal strapping to hold them in place.
