Title: Shortcut for Standard vs. Cocktail Video in MAME
Post by: dprush83 on March 29, 2012, 03:31:23 pm
Is there a hot button that can be programmed to switch between cocktail and standard view?  As I set my game settings in my cabinet I'm noticing how much video is getting cut to keep the cocktail mode on.  My player 2 won't be used nearly as much, so would there be a way to have an admin button programmed to switch MAME between orientations?

I too need this function, I have a 3 sided Mame cocktail cabinet. Hard to believe that know one knows if this is possible. I have been looking for a solution for some time and no luck.

Perhaps, you can to change configuration for your special games in the mame configuration.
Press TAB and choose Input game.

Greetings!

You could probably set up a hotkey to do it as a macro. Something like AutoHotKey? (Its how HyperSpin/HyperLaunch interact with MAME to do things...)

I guess this is the problem. There is no key to change to cocktail mode. You manually change it in the mame menu. I think this is why no one has found an easy solution. I have a 3 sided cocktail cabinet and I sit at the side until I want to play a cocktail game so I need to change it on the fly.

Are you using a frontend?

Another way to go about it would be to use different roms for different orientations. Use a parent rom for your single player list and one of the many clone roms for your split screen. That way there are separate ini files associated with the different roms and you're set.

ffightu  (set that to single player display mode)
ffightu1 (set that to split screen display mode)

You could also just have a second MAME install where the games are set to the other orientation. I've done that before.

Setup an additional MAME and make a different game list. One list for when you want 2 players and another just for you.

Happy gaming.
