Does anyone know how to wire one of those Illuminated Engine Start Buttons to power on household devices?
I'm building a sound booth and will have a mixer and cd player that I'd like to somehow wire up a power bar to one of these buttons. I imagine most of them are for 12v so I'm wondering how to accomplish this?

...and this is arcade related how? Just because it has a start button? .... LMFAO!!

You could use an scr or relay to set on when the start button is pressed, but you will need an "off" button or switch to turn it off. Relay would be pretty simple. SCR would be a little more work, due to switch AC instead of DC.

Did I say it was? I would imagine people on here have a lot of knowledge on electrical wiring. And a lot of people are willing to help out with these types of things. Then there's the other group who troll and give smart ass answers to everything....

Probably could have taken the higher ground and responded to DaOld instead. ::)

Google "Momentary to toggle circuit" or "Momentary to latched circuit"
There's a variety of ways to might accomplish this.

His options might be limited if he's going to be pumping 120VAC through that.

He just meant that things like this go in Everything Else.

I want to hit the button and have it turn on 3 120v AC devices but have the led light in the button...
oh and perhaps a moderator could move this to the appropriate forum

Is the switch rated for 120 VAC?
Is the lamp for the switch rated for 120 volts?

Ah, Well, I'm not an ee or an electrician, so I tend to stay away from mains level voltages. Yeah, those circuits I pointed to might not be all that great for 120vac.

You might be able to use a smartstrip in conjunction with one of the devices plugged into the master port, and have that device be turned on by the button (the way many people wire up the power button on the PC in their cabinet to an external button, and have the PC coming on power up the smartstrip.

The switch you're looking for will be either 120 volt, 15 amp switch. A few companies make them if you look around. Or you could get a small 120 volt light and wire it inline with the switch to illuminate.

If you follow these, it should give you an idea on how to wire it all up. 12VDC switch with an led in it switching a 120VAC source.

Thanks for all the replies, gonna go check out this links now!

FWIW, the led in the power button will only be on when the computer is on. If you wanted the LED to remain lit whether the computer was on or not, that would require a DC source for the LED separate from the computer PSU.

Yaksplat - I appreciate your tutorials. The "Wiring up the main power switch" one is actually fun to read which is no mean feat.
The best part is when I read them I hear Ron Swanson.
