I had a corrupted ROM in my ROMS folder and now that I replaced it, when I tell MALA to update the list, I just get a windows bell like when the menu comes up. Do I need to force mame to update an .xml or .ini or what to get this game to show up in my all games list? I did the same thing on another machine and it worked fine. I don't know what I did different. I must be doing something wrong. Maybe I'm overlooking something simple. Any help appreciated.

Re-do your MAME settings in Mala.

I went round and round with mame.ini, mame.xml and mala.ini. In the end, what I did was install another instance of mala 1.74 and rescan by roms. Then I took All Games.mlg and copied over the original one. Not a very elegant fix, but I didn't want to spend all the time resetting my customizations.
BTW, I think MALA is fantastic front end. I use on a 25" horizontal CGA monitor with Space-Port Cabinet by Buried-Egg http://malafe.net/index.php?page=layouts (http://malafe.net/index.php?page=layouts) (about a quarter of the way down the page).

I have a similar problem I believe. Not sure how to solve it....
I recently installed MALA using the excellent retroGUI layout. I don't know what I did wrong but at some point I lost my list of ALL GAMES on my MAME menu. It now only shows Controls, Genre, Number players, Year, and other basic filters as my first line menu. I've totally lost my initial list of all games. What did I do to mess this up? I don't want to show Genre, Year, etc at the main menu of MAME. I'd rather show All Games, Lightgun games, Trackball games, Favorites, etc.
I've tried to manage the gamelists on the tab within GUI, but nothing takes.
Can anyone help me out here? Please?
Thanks in advance.

Look for a check on the 'hide "All Games" checkbox on the Lists Tab of configuration. You should use the MALA list editor to do the other things you are trying to do.

Thanks MTPPC for your response. Your suggestion is a good one, however I don't have the "Hide 'All games' list checked in the Games List tabs.
I have also created 3 other lists in that same tab that don't show up at all. I don't get it. At one point MALA was showing all my games, then they went away. The only thing(s) that shows up on the MAME main menu is: Control, Genre, Manufacturer, Players, Year. That's it. Weird.
It's probably something really dumb, I just can't figure it out. It doesn't seem to be the "Hide" checkbox. I've tried to search this forum, but can't find the answer. Any other ideas?

Try unzipping your downloaded Mala folder in a different location and start over. When you get it right, copy it over your old installation.

OK. Thanks, I'll give that a go.

That worked! Guess I should have just reinstalled Mala and worked in my layouts from scratch. Far less headache. Thanks for your help. :)
