Title: Vertical hold not...holding!
Post by: dprush83 on March 18, 2012, 07:48:19 pm
I have an arcade monitor that is scrolling from side to side.  I can use the vertical hold switch to control it, but can't get it to stay anywhere. After VERY carefully messing with the switches I got it to stay where I wanted, but after 2-3 minutes it went back to the same problem. If a video of what I'm talking about is needed I can post that as well. Any thoughts on what could be doing this?

Has it EVER worked?  An extremely touchy hold control like you describe usually means you effectively don't have sync hooked up at all which may be a problem with sync format - composite/separate, polarity, etc. - and where you have or don't have it hooked up: many monitors effectively have 4 places to where one can hook up composite sync, and only one of them will be correct depending on format.

Also, since you say it's rolling side-to-side but you're adjusting vertical hold, I assume this monitor is mounted vertically?  Just wanting to get terminology straight since that can cause confusion.  It shouldn't affect any of this electrically.

I just purchased the cabinet and apparently this just started happening (which is why he wanted it gone, he ran a business).  And correct, it is mounted vertically.

This is the first monitor I'm working with (I've put it off long enough, time to learn  :D) so I will research how to get the sync hooked.  After your post I pulled up this (http://www.arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/sync.html), am I on the right track to what you are talking about?
