Title: I-Pac vs. J-Pac Custom Build Question
Post by: micahman33 on March 14, 2012, 09:10:47 am
First off, thanks to everyone who has been contributing...there is some phenomenal information floating around here. That said, one thing I remain confused about it whether I need the I-Pac or J-Pac for a totally custom build I am doing. Not working from an existing machine or anything, and only need two players. Does the type of joystick I get dictate whether I need I-Pac or J-Pac or is it all irrelevant since Im not working from a cabinet with already existing components? Ive searched around and tried to see if anyone had similar questions but didn't see anything. Thanks

The JPac is designed to be plugged into a cabinet that is wired JAMMA (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/JAMMA), which most often occurs when using an existing cabinet (although some, like me, prefer to wire a cabinet as JAMMA to provide more flexibility down the road, such as being able to plug in a real game board).

If you aren't going to wire your cab JAMMA, then you don't want a JPac.

Awesome. Thanks so much for your help. I was holding off on ordering joysticks/I-Pac until I knew for sure the two would play well together, but it sounds like I should be good to go. Looking to start with some basic HAPP Competition joysticks and go from there once I really get into this.
