It is an LG L200ME-BF. It is a TFT panel but the price is pretty good.

what about...lag?
can someone do a lag test..with street fighter or something. if its somewhat playable then I want one for a bartop or maybe even a sitdown cabinet.

Doesn't it seem reasonable that at least one company should do production runs of direct CRT replace screen sizes every now and then. I imagine the one company that figures out there is a market and current need for a 4:3 27" LCD is going to make a killing.
-
If they make it IPS/MVA/PVA, CCFL and 2048x1536 or 2400x1800 pixel or something, it will end up on many desktops too.
Did you guys notice that Apple is SO STUPID NOT TO MAKE A MAC/DISPLAY TO CODE ON FOR THEIR IPAD 3! It has a larger resolution than any Mac/CD.

The thing that annoy me most about widescreen displays is that for some stupid reason the industry decided not to make them wide enough to actually show any of the common widescreen film formats. Head back in time to when they first started making widescreen displays. Television was 1.3333:1 (4:3) and common movie sizes were 1.85:1 and 2.39:1. So what size did they decide to make the displays? 1.77:1 (16:9), wide enough to ruin all 4:3 content but not actually wide enough to properly display the widescreen movies which were the average consumers only source of widescreen content.
Now they make all the TV shows 16:9, which has even further destroyed the chance of them actually making sets wide enough to properly view a widescreen movie.
The adoption of 16:9 on most laptops is particularly disturbing as it makes them wider and less functional to add a feature used largely by children (watching widescreen DVD on the laptop which, as I said above still isn't wide enough for that).

$50 all day, every day on Craig's List.
It's worth the extra $45 to have it delivered to your door and not have to deal with the people on Craig's List.

^^ this is one of those rare times where i would have to agree with pinballjim here. I could price haggle/lowball my way into two monitors for the price of a "refurb" from newegg. I tend have major trust issues with the term "refurbished". Vendors such as newegg and compusa/tigerdirect have a different idea of what refurbished means. Most of the time their return and warranty terms simply aren't good enough to justify the price premium for what amounts to second hand/used items.

Got 5 19 inch on kijiji for 25$ each. You just have to have patience and keep looking. Alot of companies upgrade to larger screens and you can get the refurbs (checked if they work) for a deal.

Big +1 The freaks come out on CL.

Here you go. Much better monitor. It is either IPS or PVA depending on serial number. Both of which are much better than TFT. I have purchased from them before because they are local to me.

All LCD's are TFT today. You don't want no TFT: remember those 1992 Boeing 747 chair screens..... BWAAAAH!
Guess you meant to say no TN (Twisted Nematic).

Thanks for the correction!

4:3 LCD monitors are turning up fairly frequently in thrift stores these days. The goodwill near me had a lot of like 25-30 come in and they priced them at 20$ each. Some office upgraded monitors and dumped the old ones off there....
-
For gaming purposes you may be more interested to know that 21" CRT monitors are often going in the $20-$40 range these days and they tend to look a lot better in a game than LCDs normally do.

In my experience these are often the crap 5:4 19 inch TN ones. Most people doing away old Dell, LG, or HP 20 inch 1600x1200 ones often know the value.

ditto...if you are patient, one will eventually turn up on CL for free

This is what I used in my cab. About $90 shipped from Geeks.com a year or so ago.

I'm dreading the day my Dell 2001FP finally dies. It's been so good since I bought it in 2002 that I'll probably just buy a 2007FP to replace it, despite the $400 price tag. Love my IPS monitors!
-
The problem with CRT's is the depth. Hard to fit into cabinets. You need to find what is called a "short boot" that is about the same size as an arcade monitor. Somewhat hard to find.
-
It's better to snag a Samsung 213t or 214t off eBay or Craigslist. I've gotten a couple on CL for <$75. It's the only 21 inch 4:3 you can find anywhere.

Here's something I stumbled across, just for future reference. My dad had surgery earlier this week (elective, and he's doing fine), his hospital room had one of these on the wall. It's a 20.1" LG, apparently made specifically for hospitals:

Crappy picture, I know. Sorry. Here's the model info (LG 20LH1DC1):

The screen was pretty good, and the size looks excellent for a 4:3 arcade project. Quick Google shows none for sale (even used), but it's something to keep an eye out for in surplus sales and such...

I have two 4:3 monitors gathering dust. My new LED display can display 4:3 so it is not a big deal.
But I like how you guys are keeping the planet safer and buying all those crap displays, instead of seeing them go into landfills.
Kudos. :applaud:

Yup. The IPS ans PVA panels that originally cost $800 to $1200 new are not nearly as good as the $120 TN panels.
-
Why do you say that? The off-angle on all my IPS displays is excellent. Most TN displays I've seen are poor off-angle. In fact the 23" I'm looking at right now has enough shift that I can see yellow on one edge of the monitor and blue on the other.
-
Apologies if this question is slightly off tangent.
I may be replacing my Sony CRT 25" for a 28" wide TFT due to weight issue. Would it be possible in screen resolution or somewhere else to set the screen to show 4:3 and centralize the image? I don't have the computer setup to even check at the moment if this is even possible, it's running XP
-
On many widescreen monitors I have used, you can set the size of the screen to automatically fit to 4:3 and not display beyond that....that being said, you should also be able to do a similar affect through windows display settings on XP....

I was being sarcastic. Give me IPS or PVA any day over the cheap widescreen TN panels that are commonplace now.
