Has anyone converted an original 4-way leaf switch Ms Pacman Joystick into an 8-way Joystick?

Why not just buy an 8-way joystick?  A Happs Competition or Super or those new Zippyy joysticks are like $10.

They made an 8-way version of that stick. Came in various midway cocktails that had 8-way sticks, Gorf, etc.

I literally just installed one 3 or 4 days now. I would have traded you if it wouldn't involve me ruining the work I already did (special mounting, removing it will kill the control panel overlay).

That may be hard to find. Wico 8-way balltops and perfect 360s have a similar feel.

Thanks.

I was hoping to keep it (ms pacman cocktail) all original since I love the feel of the small smooth ball top and real leaf switches. I figured either it was a dumb question and/or it had never been done before, since I couldn't find anything on the internet in regards to it.

I'm guessing its just not worth the trouble.

if your keeping it original why would you changed the best 4 way stick in the world to 8 way. Will it be a mame cab if so just make it for all 4 way vertical mame cab or if you dont play 2 player i assume you can make on end for 8 way  verticals not sure if i seen that done here

Yeah, cost vs effort, just get a new stick. Then you will still have the coveted original in case you ever want to switch back.

I had a Midway cocktail like that and it had 8-way sticks that I changed to 4-way sticks as I felt that enabled a better overall list of games. Don't mix and match your 4-way and 8-way games. Just build with the 4-ways you have. There is a nice, nice gamelist of 2-way and 4-way games you can use with those sticks. Leave the 8-way games for another project.

Thanks.

There are no dumb questions if you learn something..

and I am with Paige, plenty of classic 4-ways that will kick ass on a cocktail.

Im in the opposite boat, trying to find out what pre-made stick is easily able to switch from a 8-way to a 4-way with very little "technical" know-how. Have a 360 Hori Real Arcade Pro EX that I use for MAME, but I don't wanna change it.

Is this stick: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARCADE-STICK-fighting-stick-EX2-Xbox-360-HORI-Japanese-/110840654005?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ce9e28b5#ht_500wt_1413 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARCADE-STICK-fighting-stick-EX2-Xbox-360-HORI-Japanese-/110840654005?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ce9e28b5#ht_500wt_1413)

or

easily moddable with a 4 way stick?

Yes Midway had an 8 way version made for them. Used in several games like Lazarian, Gorf ct, Bosconian, etc. Don't hack up your panels....just track down the 8 way version.

I'm trying out one of these right now: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/zippyy-ball-handle-joystick-seimitsu-ls-32-clone-short-shaft-zippyy-joy-short.html (http://www.jammaboards.com/store/zippyy-ball-handle-joystick-seimitsu-ls-32-clone-short-shaft-zippyy-joy-short.html) It has a plastic gate on the bottom where you can make it a 2, 4 or 8 way. I'm doing a dedicated 4-way with it. It seems pretty cheap. Lucky I got a complete spare control panel to  try this stuff out on.

That zippy is a piece of trash. Do not buy one. You're just throwing money away if you do.
