Title: Pacman help
Post by: urgeboy on March 09, 2012, 06:18:02 am
So I found a pacman on craigslist. The person said the game had an issue with "the board not coming up". When I asked if it was playing blind (and described what that meant) this is the reply I got.

NO, the screen is black with sometimes a line or two will show up or a faint outline of the game. You can hear sound when you push the one or two player and turn it on & off. just saying it puts sound out.

I did some looking around and haven't figured out what the issue is yet. My first uneducated guess was maybe bad power supply? I haven't had a chance to inspect the machine first hand yet, hopefully will tomorrow. Any ideas? I already checked out lawnmower mans pacman site and didn't see anything matching this.

The person is asking 300 so I figured it was worth a look for that price.

Thanks!

Definitely worth a look imho. In fact if the cab is in any kind of descent shape I'd be all over it. But there aren't alot that come up in my area. Can you take a psu with you to check it with?

unfortunately, I don't have one...I think its definitely worth a look too. I just was trying to figure out if this is a monitor issue or what. I can deal with a new power supply or swapping out boards or something along those lines. I just don't really want to deal with another monitor problem right now. I'm still trying to finish up the monitor issue I had with my APB.

I hear that. Do you have a friend/local collector that has a board or psu you could borrow? Or maybe have them come along for some advice/support? You could also use the issues it's having as a bargaining chip. Maybe wheedle the seller down on price....

There is no "psu" since the pwr supply is on the logic board. It takes ac inputs directly from the pwr transfomer.

Also, I repair Pac series boards if you end up with this and want it repaired.
