I posted this on the HS forum but I couldnt leave my BYOAC hommies out.
40" Phillips ultra slim LED LCD 1080p 60Hz
28" Samsung
250 GB (for now, later on = 90GB SSD)
GTX 460
8 GB RAM
Win7 (me thinks)
730 Watt Raidmax
Intel i5-2500k 3.3GHz (3.7GHz TurboBoost)
BioStar TZ68A+
I'm using a WMS 1983 Time Fantasy cabinet. Going for a vintage looking, non decal, retro stencil style painted pin here with a Playboy'esque "Pin Up" theme. The topper is going to be something special. I plan on (somehow) placing hot pink LED's behind 4 (blank, no 100pt or 500pt label) old school style pop bumpers that are secured to chrome or pink posts & putting a decal on each on to spell "TILT". Not sure if I will wire that into a flasher mod or not, I dont want stutter on the PF!
40" LED will rest on TOP of the routered cabinet.
I have farted around in MsPaint with a theme & some image I found on google as a start but will certainly outsource that aspect to ensure it ends up OG & pro looking. This machine should have lots of white, hot pink, black & prolly some chrome.
Just started a cycle of roids for a tore up tendon so I threw those in the PC pic to make the rig look even meaner lol & the TF machine in the pics was robbed from google because I dont want to get up
Word, bout to load the OS, DL hyperpin & etc this weekend.

I'll be following this with lots of interest.
There's a site selling real DMD's for a decent price. Only 60ish left last time I checked though. May think about using that for your scoreboard?
-
I think its $300 + a $75 adapter right?
Referring to this? http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17258 (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17258)
The link in that thread to http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=164&parent=0 (http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=164&parent=0) is for DMD's that are not 5V thus = drama
Is there another source? Hook me up with a link dude, I will buy one right now because I'd much prefer to go the DMD route just for install simplicity.
Much appreciated

For Sale to PBJ: Busted ass Time Fantasy. Not working, missing plastics, wont fire up, playfield destroyed to the wood, *NO* replacement parts to be had anywhere in our solar system & a grained up janky ass cabinet.
Now that we have that out of the way....
Youre right, no way I will deal with the high voltage DMD. I'd rather do a 2 screen setup than fight with that. I'd rather do a 2 screen setup than fight with a sideway mounted 3rd monitor & modification of the lower head & upper cabinet to accomodate such an ordeal.
The LED DMD is just too damn expensive though!
Do you have a Jedi source PBJ?

Nice work. I will be following your thread. :applaud: :applaud:

Here's the DMD link
http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=164&parent=0 (http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=164&parent=0)
$134 plus shipping.

Yeah dude those are not 5v.
The OP of that HS thread was mistaken.... if I'm not mistaken lol.
-
How can you tell? I was thinking of using this DMD in a VP cabinet
-
Its in the thread: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17258 (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17258)

Right, those are $300+ the $75 adapter.
I mean yeah thats a sweet route to take but damn four hundie?
Guess I'm getting cheap in my old age :-)
-
There's always the 17" route, but then you need another vid card. Granted the GTX 460 isn't an expensive card anymore, so no big deal there.
-
Not for me.
Thats a lot of work (with my skillset at least) for little return IMHO. It seems UVP causes stutter, if not stutter then a lot of time spent "tweaking" the OS & etc + I'd have to modify my cabinet & backbox even more & buy another graphic card & monitor.
I would rather put that time & money into another 7-8 pins ;D
Now maybe after I get my feet wet & some time playing my cabinet I will decide to get a 3rd monitor or DMD but for now it sounds like drama
-
Well I looked into your graphics card on ebay...goes for around 70ish. 17" monitors are VERY cheap on craigslist. Could probably get the hardware for 100 bux with some searching
-
Sounds like work :-)
-
I did the 3rd screen for dmd and no UVP and it was a breeze to setup--just drag your dmd onto the 3rd screen and its done. The only bugger is when the table designer throws an auto rotate in there that you have to reset. Awesome project by the way--I'm digging the retro art.
-
Yeah I just dont feel like adding more cutting/mounting to my to do list. If you look at the cabinet the backbox does not sit directly on the cabinet, there is another box between the two which "chokes"s out the 3rd monitor from recessing into the cabinet.
Sure I could hack away at it like I did when putting the 37" LCD in my showcase but I feel like static backglass or stutter causing UVP backglass is more trouble that its worth. Its not that I am considering building a cab without a DMD, I'm considering a cab without emulated backglass art thus resulting an a massive wtf DMD.... Weird I know, but this is a weird pinball cabinet ;D
EDIT: Just realized I didnt attach my quick & dirty mock up of the pop bumper topper (rear illuminated with hot pink LED's), added it to this post & the 1st.

PC assembled & I am now in the "lets pretend it works by placing a TV on the machine & using a keyboard" phase of the project.
Word, cant wait.
