Acquired this cabinet for free, it was missing controls, PC, encoder, and coin door. Speakers, television, t-molding, and all art pieces were included.
I have been slowly gathering controls, and a iPac-4.
All I am missing now is the spinner, and a 4 player coin door.
Some pictures (crappy cell phone, I'll take some real pictures later):

Still working on the PC to go inside, currently nuking & paving to reinstall Windows.
I'll be swapping the yellow balltop for a blue balltop. The sticks are NOS Wico's (switch, not leaf). I'm probably also going to attempt to dye the purple balltop a little darker to match the buttons.

So did you have to build the control panel from scratch, or was it just empty? No matter how you slice it, this is a steal of a deal at $0.

It was just empty. The panel was there, just had to populate it.

All that for free?
Are you like the video game mafia or something?

Yes. I'm a mod here, after all... people give me stuff so I'll look the other way... >:D
Just kidding of course. This came from a member here who had also acquired it for free. He just didn't have the room for it, and I did.
-
Are you going to add a spinner? I see the CP art has a spot for it.

Yes. All that's missing now is the spinner, and the coin door. Working on building funds so I can get those. Spinner will probably be my next purchase.

That looks like Timeo's old cabinet.
http://timoe.blogspot.com/ (http://timoe.blogspot.com/)
It was one of my first-favorite cabinets when I got into this hobby. That is one of the better 4-player examples I've seen. I have to admit to being a bit jealous you got that for free.
-
Good eye, it is his cabinet.
-
Very nice looking. Shame that the spinner spot is unpopulated, but would it even be usable where the original builder put it? Seems like the player 4 joystick gets in the way.

Read up, spinner is my next purchase.
Haven't attempted to see how usable it will be, maybe I'll try today with an imaginary spinner.
-
My two player panel is sort of the same way. To use the spinner, I rest my hand on the player two joystick. It actually works.
-
Great looking cab and great price. Make it your own !! Don't just complete it, MOD it. ;D
-
I just like the fact that there's a stack of original CPS2 boards sitting all lonely next to a mame cabinet in that picture. It's blasphemous I tell ya, blasphemous!

Hey I can only fit one into the Impress at a time! :)
SFZ3, MVC, and XMVSF are the CPS2 boards there...

That's pretty cool. This raises an interesting moral exercise for me. Since this cabinet is a "classic" to me what happens if you mod it?
Can one mame a MAME cabinet Grasshopper?
;D

Lol... Oh, I'm gonna MAME the MAME, alright.
-
very nice freebie indeed looks like it's still like new and done right.
would love to have one like it free or not
-
Anyone have a cheap spinner and / or 4 player coin door? ;D
-
this is definitely a great catch here. What kind of pc rig do you have as the mame setup?
-

It's an older AMD single core 64 bit, 2.8 Ghz I think. Has 1.5 Gb of RAM. Nothing special, it was old PC before I built my new Win 7 rig.
-
Not a whole lot of progress. I've got player 1 completely wired up, 3 more players to go. I've been resisting the urge to "test" player 1 out, as I know that will keep me from getting the rest of the wiring done. :lol
-
Hey Haruman,
Nice pick up!
Do you mind telling me the dimensions of the control panel. For my next project I would like to build a 4 player with a trackball and the layout looks perfect.
Thanks for your time

I'll take some measurements and let you know.

Thanks!

It's 44" X 18.25"
Oh, and the spinner is in the perfect spot, btw. Standing centered on the screen, my arm fits nicely between P2 & P4 joysticks.

1 step forward, 2 steps back...
So I got a racheting crimper, that's been making the wiring go a lot faster. I wired up players 1 & 2, and decided to test them out before I got any further...
I wired up player 1 as player 2 and vice versa... :banghead: :banghead:
Now, do I:
1) Take the time to rewire
2) Just reprogram the Ipac4 and move on
?

Well, here's a pretty cheap one... needs some love... ;D

Rewire. Why half-ass it?

Agreed!

It just sucks... each wire is cut to length to eliminate clutter in the CP. :banghead:
-
Well, look at it this way- it'll be fine until you sell it, then the buyer will keep bugging you as to why the joysticks aren't working right because they did _____________ to the machine.
Rewire that sucker. >:D
