Title: gun game list help
Post by: YoGaBaR on February 25, 2012, 04:14:46 pm
I have a couple extra of the T2 guns and was thinking about making a cabinet to put in gun games only. I am looking for the games that are like a joystick not actual light gun games. I would like to build a CP like box to mount them and test a few games out and see it I could even get it to work.

Could any of you think of more games like these?

I thought of Lucky & Wild but I wonder how to use a gun to mimic a steering wheel - it would be hooked up with an U-HID.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Here is a list of the 19 games that work, fully tested, not too old or crappy (for me at least), all from mame version 0.144

Alien 3: The Gun
Beast Busters
Dragon Gun
Golgo 13
Golgo 13 Kiseki no Dandou
Jurassic Park
Laser Ghost
Line of Fire
Mechanized Attack
Operation Thunderbolt
Operation Wolf
Operation Wolf 3
Rail Chase (2noworks)
Revolution X
Space Gun
Steel Gunner
Steel Gunner 2
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Zombie Raid

To complete the list I have not fully checked these but these are the other mounted light gun games

OLD- To me
Catch-22
Cheyenne
Chiller
Clay Pigeon
Combat
Crackshot
Crossbow
Desert Gun
Hit n' Miss
Shooting Gallery
Triple Hunt
Who Dunit

NON-WORKING
Shooting Master
Bubble Trouble(GG2)
Golly! Ghost!
Wild Pilot

SHORT OR TICKET
Ghost Hunter
Gun Bullet

There are a few games with mounted guns that need an extra controller not mentioned here. There are like 3 of them one being Lucky and Wild

Lucky and Wild is a light gun not a positional gun.

All the Exidy shooters (Crossbow, etc) are positional guns.

Not True, but you'd need to add a steering wheel to play it.

I refurbed a pair of positional guns with the intention of building a cab specifically for those games.
But after making a list, I realized most of them suck and there are only around 6 I'd actually play.
Not sure what version of MAME it was based on, but you can find a list attached to the 2nd post in this thread:

I tried to copy and paste the list, but it screws up the formatting and I don't have time to fix it.

What really disappointed me was that the Sega Model 2 emulator doesn't suport analogue input for the positional gun games (only mouse).

I wish I still had that list, but I erased it once I hooked up all the gun games I could find.  Ugh... lets just say "a lot"

BM.... it's a workaround, but there are utlities out there that translate joystick movement to mouse movement... you might want to try those.

I did.  Don't remember which ones I tried, but they resulted in jerky movement.
Instead of moving smoothly, it was like the crosshairs were moving on a grid.

YoGaBar,
The big thing with the positional guns is having the deadzone set to zero in the mame ini and then getting the sensetivity adjusted right.
You might find something useful in this thread where I first started messing with them (knew nothing about them at that point)

I still have that big old gun & have it so the vibration motor spins whenever the trigger is pulled.
It's fun to break out every once in a while.  I still don't know if I'll ever bother with a dedicated machine though.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the good info.
BadMouth -
I will give those links a look. Maybe your right I should just make a gun cp and just pull it out when needed.
