Title: How do you power your cab?s subs and speakers????
Post by: jhsmith321 on September 24, 2003, 09:37:21 pm: Hello everyone!!!, well I am planning to use a pair of 6.5 inch car stereo speakers set for my cab (separate mids and highs with a couple of crossovers) and a 10 inch sealed sub, my question is how do you guys power your cab?s sound system??, using home stereo amplifier or a car amp?? Do you use two separate sources to power the subs and the mids and highs? Or do you drive all the speakers from the same source??? I am not a car audio expert, but I think that it is possible to power car speakers with a home amp, as long as both have the same requirements (ohms, I believe it?s the word). Right now I am more inclined to use a home amp, but I would like to hear somebody else?s opinion and experiences with their sound systems. THANKS!!!!! ;D

Post by: Cisco Kid on September 25, 2003, 12:43:12 am: I'm using a pair of 4" Sony Xplod car speakers, MTX Thunder 202 amp, and a Monster Cable to transfer the sound from the sound card to the amp.

Powering that with a small Mean Well S-320-12 12V, 25A Switching PSU (adjustable voltage 10V - 13.2V ... thing is smaller than a normal CD-ROM drive ;D )

... thats whats going on inside my cabinet :)

Games largely don't have high enough quality audio to benefit from high end equipment in the first place, and secondly, do you really want to be the guy who shook his monitor loose because he had the bass turned up too loud on Pooyan.

Real games usually had a sinlge 5" or 6x9" speaker that cost all of $3.

Also, be real careful using car speakers in an arcade cabinet. I replaced the demolished subwoofer in my old Turbo with a car one, and immediately gained a lovely fade across the red spectrum on the monitor that didn't go away until the red went out on the thing completely.

Well, the thing is, that I am planning to use a TV with the cab, leaving a couple of RCA inputs in the front, I am planning to add a DVD player, as well as consoles such as PSX, or anything else, those games as do use high-fi sound, some even come with the 5.1 audio channels. ;)......... I just want to keep my options open for all those future consoles such as PSX 3, X-box 2 or anything else. But, all suggestions and opinions are open, THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Post by: soslo on September 25, 2003, 06:35:39 pm: For my first cab I used a 5.1 sound card and some polk 5.1 speakers (awesome speakers for $60).

vanns.com shipped them to me for free.

Intense sound for $60. Great for mp3s too.
