I built my cab over 6 years ago and have been running MAME and several other emus.
I've built a new PC for it and want to re-install MAME (command-line) but don't know how to determine what version I have loaded.
Can someone tell me how to find the MAME version?
btw, I understand that loading the latest version could adversely effect the running of my ROMs (they are over 6 years years old).
Is this true? (that's why I was looking for what version I've been running)
Thanks for your help,
MPTech

mame.exe -?
That should print the version to the command line. If it doesn't then you are running a REALLY old version of mame, at which point simply typing "mame.exe" with no options should print the version.
Btw, yes if you upgrade mame you'll probably have to upgrade your roms.

Right click on MAME.exe > Properties > Details Tab

Dazz, my version must be too old. I tried a right click and no Details Tab.
Howard_Casto, thanks! looks like v1.04 ( I said it was old!)
with that information, I could use some expert advice.
load the old MAME v1.04 and my current ROMset? Pros & Cons?
load current MAME and upgrade my ROMset?
I'm completely satisfied with my current ROMset, but I didn't want to load current MAME and some of my favorite old games no longer work (from my current ROMset).

Or, if you run the mouse over the exe, a little description will pop up.

DAMN. Upgrade to at least .37 .
