Title: Keeping Monitor On
Post by: Ophelius on February 15, 2012, 12:56:26 am
For all of you who use a regular lcd screen in your cabinets, the ones you find at Best buy and Future shop, how do you deal with turning on your monitors? The arcade monitors turn on when powered, but any other lcd monitor you have to push the on button. If the monitor is hidden inside the cabinet, how does it turn on? Is there a way to make it turn on/off automatically when the power goes on and off? Before I go and buy one I'd like to know if this is possible. Thanks

I use  a Dell 19" LCD and it comes on automatically when power is applied.
I plug everything into a smart strip and wire the PC power button to an arcade button mounted on the top of the cab abd it will power on or off everthing in the cabinet.

Ok, that makes sense. Did you have to configure anything in the bios or windows so the other components turn on/off with the pc's power, or does the power bar do that automatically?

No BIOS configuration was needed. When the PC is powered on or off   the smart strip turns on the other outlets on or off so the marquee light, monitor, and sound system all turn on or off as needed.
The first smart strip I got from walmart that alot of people recomended did not switch properly for me so I had to return it.
I think the standby current of the old PC I am using was too high so it always kept the whole strip turned on.
I ended up finding one at a garage sale that had an adjustment screw that allows the sensitivity to be adjusted.

All the LCDs that I use in my cabinets turn back on if the power is removed and restored.  No special setting are needed.
