Title: Control Panel? N64 configuration
Post by: beast8812 on February 14, 2012, 05:27:49 pm
This is my first post here and id like to say all the info is great and helpful. I'm currently trying to plan out my 4 player control panel. I've looked at numerous pictures and read some ideas. I'm really stuck on how many buttons for each player. I know a lot of people have said to only give players 3 and four, 4 buttons. But I want to run Mame and numerous other emulators with another one of the main ones being n64. Im leaning torward 8 buttons per player because I one day may integrate my xbox into my cabinet and the playstation uses 8 buttons. But that still leaves me a button short for n64. I know there are adapters to integrate n64 controllers but how do they work with my CPU and will I be able to set it up for 4 players. What are some suggestions for where to put the ports for the controller plug in. I'm ok with have one set of controllers to plug in but anymore then that defeats the purpose. Anyone have any ideas, pictures or anything that has worked for them in the past. I'm trying to get the control panel setup and built first. This will be for either a pedestal or possibly an ultimate arcade 2.  Most likely pedestal.  Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

N64 sucks without an analog stick.  It also sucks on a control panel.  Get a gamepad with analog and enough buttons or better yet an N64 joystick.

If you just want to say "look, I've got N64 on this beast, too!" then it doesn't matter how you set it up.  If you want to enjoy playing it, don't use the CP.
